Apparently these two were involved with something this weekend.

And now their Star Wars films aren’t happening.

Good news I guess if it means Rians gets brought forward

Feel like Kevin Feige was brought in to replace them after the Netflix deal, and that it was unrelated to Rian for better or worse.

Feige has a *lot* on his plate too. I don’t see this as a huge catastrophe or anything. If anything it just bumps up Rians films. Bring it :)
He only said the other day he’s waiting on LFL so it’s all good.

After TLJ I really don’t want more Rian movies. I love Star Wars too much for that.

You should see knives out. He’s made a masterpiece. Letting him start up a whole new era of Star Wars with his own characters and time frame is the only way forward.
We have to get away from this period.

I will see Knives Out and Looper, and hope for the best. I saw Brick with an open mind about a month ago, as I didn't even know who directed it until after. But I really didn't like it.

Looper is really really good. I wasn’t a fan of brick either but looper is in a field of its own.
As is Knives out. Such a brilliant story. So well made

Ok so this is fairly shocking. And ultimately does reflect reality really badly on Kathleen Kennedy.
Benioff and Weiss did a Q&A this weekend and pretty much all of it is shocking. This session has no bearing on them being shown the door I’d say, but have a read.

Which part reflects poorly on Kennedy? Couldn't see anything.

I loved part of what they did with Game Of Thrones. Truly one of the greatest series ever. Clearly they were a little lost without GRRM though, and so I was a little bit worried about them in Star Wars. Not crying into my pillow at night because they went to Netflix. Hopefully Kennedy, Disney, Lucasfilm etc, will find the right people to make movies going forward. We know they can. Rogue One especially was just right for modern Star Wars.

This news did not surprise me at all. I have some major beefs with how GoT ended, but endings to that type of series are incredibly difficult. There's a reason why GRRM hasn't finished the last two books.

Reflects badly on her because she should have done far more work looking into them. It doesn’t just land in her lap. Iger wanted theese guys on board too.

Perhaps she just saw them running a massive production with a massive budget and massively popular, and didn’t really investigate the story aspect of it all, which is where they fell down once they ran out of source material. I like all of GOT but the main complaint is they fell apart once they ran out of th book material

Better this happened now than it happening midproduction

sometimes I wish Hollywood was less butt kissy so that Disney could say "we got rid of them because of ____" instead of "it's a mutual decision and we're all very happy with each other and hope everyone does well in the future". Just burn those damn bridges. You have more money than God so it's not like you're going to be hard up for talent if you piss some off.

And maybe fewer people would get 2nd 3rd 8th chances after being an asshole.

We'll never really know what they could have done with Star Wars. We can judge them on what they do on Netflix. I'm sure they are both talented, and have great people around them at Netflix.

and Lucas was always going to do nine movies until he wasn't.

which is a dumb point but it's the first thing that popped into my head. :)

yes and no, depending on which level of fandom you are in and also how you feel about sexism and white privilege.

me, I never watched the show / read the books / and thought their idea for Confederates was fucking capital-R Retarded so I couldn't care less at this point.

Do you have a quote?

As for Confederate, I don't see the problem. It's art. If they had made it, and it was racist trash, it would have been something to discuss or pass judgement on. Now it was just an idea that won't get made.
