The Black Crowes’ Chris and Rich Robinson will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Shake Your Money Maker, with a 2020 tour that will mark their first live shows since 2013.

The 46-date run will kick off June 17th at the Austin360 Amphitheater in Austin, Texas and stretch throughout the summer, wrapping September 19th at the Forum in Los Angeles.

To mark the tour announcement, the band will play an intimate gig at New York’s Bowery Ballroom tonight, November 11th, and at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on Thursday, November 14th.

“I think this is pure. We went off into a lot of things. There’s no jamming,” Chris Robinson tells Rolling Stone in an upcoming interview. “There’s no extraneous stuff. This is the purest Black Crowes that people first [heard] … I hope we reconnect with some people who lost their way with us because of all of our other shit we were doing.”

The brothers’ fighting has become almost as well-known as their music, but the two insist the Behind the Music phase is over and they’ve made peace with each other. “No one is here to be a dick,” says Rich. “We love this music. We’re musicians. We’re brothers. We love each other. We love this opportunity … Changing the context with Chris and I and all new people is a much healthier place for us.”

Released in February 1990, Shake Your Money Maker peaked at Number Four on the Billboard 200, while album cuts “Jealous Again,” “Hard to Handle,” “She Talks to Angels” and “Seeing Things” all cracked the Top 10 on the Mainstream Rock chart. The Black Crowes’ next album, 1992’s The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, was equally successful, topping the Billboard 200.

Over the next nine years, the Black Crowes released four more albums before announcing their first hiatus. Three years later, the Robinsons reassembled the Black Crowes for a handful of shows, and in 2007 they returned to the studio, releasing a new album, Warpaint, the following year. Another LP, Before the Frost… Until the Freeze, arrived in 2009, while an acoustic collection, Croweology came in 2010.

But soon after, the band was on hiatus again — though by 2013 there was another reunion tour. In January 2015, the band seemed to be over for good when Rich Robinson announced their breakup.

“It’s always been our band and it’s funny through all the trajectory of the good and the bad — the joy and the frustrations,” Chris says. “[Rich and I] were laughing, saying the one thing [we] can always agree on is, Shake Your Money Maker’s a good record.”ontent/uploads/2019/11/black-crowes-2.jpg?resize=900,600&w=1200[/img]

I’m sure they’ll tough it out in their separate tour busses because they both need the money.

I would hope that Rich means what he said about TMS and his connections with those musicians. Maybe this is his way of bankrolling continued output while shielding what they’ve built with that band from the toxicity of the Crowes. I suppose that could be why Sven and Marc aren’t a part of it. Could be his way of keeping things pure with TMS, but who knows really.

Tough band to play lead guitar in. Dealing with Rich- supporting him then stepping up while he plays too loud. Only Marc Ford can really do it IMO.

Well the Rolling Stone interview sure is a read. Maybe they should call this the Midlife Crisis tour.

Of note: TMS is “put to bed” per Rich. “It kind of started becoming a drag.”

These guys are so full of shit I don’t even have words. Chris’s non-answers when challenged on his past statements and the hypocrisy of now doing this tour show what a fucking burnout the guy is. I don’t think these guys have any clue of what made them have such loyal fans for years after the mainstream couldn’t give a shit about them. They’re reaping exactly what they’ve sown, and I for one think it’s pretty sad.

Absolutely loved the three shows I saw with him on lead. Luther had a more laid back vibe that fit much of the laid back hippie approach to many of their songs at the time. When Jackie Greene was in there it felt more intense and like shows of crowes past. He was great. I was so excited and hoping they would record with him.

Yeah, i saw that "final" tour with Jackie and his hat. Was better at the later stuff, but didnt cut through like he should IMO. Not a sound mix thing either.

I'll be completely honest here. I was hoping they might end up at Jazzfest cause it would give me a lame excuse to see this. Now that that's not happening, I don't find myself particularly upset about it. It doesn't look like there's a single New Orleans date, and I'm fine with that. I'd travel somewhere if Gorman was in, but not a chance for just the Robinson Brothers.

I saw them at Terminal 5 in 2013 and thought it was a great show, though I expected more than 2 hours to the second.

I can’t imagine they are going to even come close to selling 20-30,000 tickets per night promising that album. It’s a great album no doubt but I just don’t see the mainstream public running in droves to see it.
