I feel like I will get this on sale and then stop playing it 10 hours into it.

Yeah I'm probably canceling my pre order today and will get this when it's half price around the holidays. I've had an itch to replay RDR2 anyway

Knowing how much I've enjoyed the slowness of Red Dead and the side mission gameplay loop of MGSV--I think I might actually really like this.

The Beastcast is going on about this and they have people who flat out hated it and stopped playing, hated it and finished it, some that like it and are playing it, and some that finished it and like it. So if you want a varied bit of opinions with minor spoilers you should check that out.

Yeah I noticed that and I ultimately decided to buy it after reading some more reviews. May dive into it tonight; I've been warned it starts incredibly slow and I'm expecting the story to be ridiculous, but a lot of people are marveling at the atmosphere so I'm hoping that is the saving grace. I was one of those who relished the 'slowness' and mood of RDR2

It seems like a large part of this game's appeal is the social element of building and liking structures, something that may not have been fully appreciated by reviewers. Interesting!

A couple of positive comments from Reddit:

"People cop to it being 'boring' in a self-effacing way but it's actually not boring at all if you're into this kind of game. Controlling Sam's momentum and navigating rough terrain is fun. Building on and optimizing your ever-expanding network of delivery routes is fun. It's like Euro Truck Simulator had a baby with a Tarkovsky film, and that rules.

I haven't been this addicted to a game since... Skyrim? It's really something."

________

"It's basically Animal Crossing but the villagers are shut ins and the raccoons have an army that are trying to beat the shit out of you and steal your shit. Oh and it takes place in a far distant post-apocalyptic future. And there are magic babies and ghosts.

And that's why I fucking love it."

translation: I spent $60 on this thing and it has Hideo Kojima and I have to love it or I'll start to question my identity.

Me, cynical?

No, I'm pretty sure that was as cynical a take as I could muster.
