Roku is super intutive. The remote is very simple to use for kids too.

guys - quick question: are you required to plug the roku and firestick into a wall outlet to get power, or do you simply plug them into your tv's hdmi outlet? i used to have a chromecast, and if i recall you still had to plug it into the wall.

It needs to be plugged in, but if your TV has a USB port, it **might** be able to power it through that (this works on my TV I got in like 2014, but not the TV from 2011).Chris_H_2 wrote:guys - quick question: are you required to plug the roku and firestick into a wall outlet to get power, or do you simply plug them into your tv's hdmi outlet? i used to have a chromecast, and if i recall you still had to plug it into the wall.

Watching Chris try to figure out how to get a simple app on his TV is like watching my dad do it.

A Roku can indeed be powered from a standard USB port.Simple Torture wrote:It needs to be plugged in, but if your TV has a USB port, it **might** be able to power it through that (this works on my TV I got in like 2014, but not the TV from 2011).Chris_H_2 wrote:guys - quick question: are you required to plug the roku and firestick into a wall outlet to get power, or do you simply plug them into your tv's hdmi outlet? i used to have a chromecast, and if i recall you still had to plug it into the wall.

Ok so I'm confused, you don't currently own a Chromecast, Roku, or Firestick? If you do, what is the issue? Plug it in to your TV, and the wall if you need that power source, and download disney plus.

so this may actually work -- right now all my tv and audio wires are hidden behind the wall. and if i have to plug it in, it'll be a huge pain trying to fish the wire up from the outlet that's in a cabinet below the tv.oasisfan35 wrote:A Roku can indeed be powered from a standard USB port.Simple Torture wrote:It needs to be plugged in, but if your TV has a USB port, it **might** be able to power it through that (this works on my TV I got in like 2014, but not the TV from 2011).Chris_H_2 wrote:guys - quick question: are you required to plug the roku and firestick into a wall outlet to get power, or do you simply plug them into your tv's hdmi outlet? i used to have a chromecast, and if i recall you still had to plug it into the wall.

i honestly thought i was asking legitimate questions. i usually turn to google first to avoid the hostility and passive-aggressiveness, but alas i couldn't find the answers there.

If it makes you feel any better, I have a Chomecast, and it doesn't work like I want it to work.Chris_H_2 wrote:i do not currently own any of them (i used to own chromecast, but i gave it to my deadbeat 35 year old live at parents home counsin). as far as plugging it in, see above ^E.H. No "Play from start" button on Roku app kind of sucks.

I logged into the app on my phone easy enough, but when I got home and it had a "log in, OR just have a device that's already logged in on the same network" button I was like oh yeah, this is technology in 2019!
and then it didn't work.
