Pearl Jam with our Children

Post by Brainof23 »

I know, no one gives a shit about your kids. I get that.

I have a 3 year old daughter. I’ve been teaching her about rock n roll. I really didn’t consider myself a father until the first time I rocked her to bed in my arms singing around the bend.

Anyway, the song of the moment for us is Given to Fly. We have been listening to it a ton and it might be her favorite song I’ve ever shown her.

So tonight she wants a song at bed time.

What song baby?

Given to fly!

Ok.

“...and then he was stabbed by a faceless man but stinkers he still stands-“

Daaaaad. It’s fuckers.

Yep. I’m sure the dad of the year trophy is in the mail.

It got me thinking. Who has a good Pearl Jam related story that involves one of their children. I’d love to hear it.

My kids think the Lightning Bolt album is good. Obviously their taste is shitty.

I took my kid to Boston and the '04 show as a surprise birthday present. PJ closed with Alive and while leaving he said "that last song was pretty good."
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

My son does not like Pearl Jam. He tells me “don’t turn on that Rock n roll!” But he used to really enjoy The Rolling Stones and My Morning Jacket. Go figure. My daughter currently digs Elmo and Baby Shark.

I thought 'around the bend' had a dual meaning where it's also about killing a person

I've gotten all 3 of my kids to enjoy, and even request, songs by good classic rock bands like Pink Floyd, the Stones, AC/DC, Tom Petty... and even some good 90's rock. My wife & I are both big time Pearl Jam fans and have tried hard to get them to like PJ, but have failed miserably. My oldest (she's 9) really likes Unthought Known. That's it.

My kid is only 2 so haven't gotten much into it but when she was an infant, the Ukulele Songs album would calm her down.

Don’t ruin PJ for him by fulfilling that request.
