I don't know guys, I really liked Eps 1+2, but I thought E3 sucked.

Seriously.

I love that he is now the bounty, and that the other Mandalorians will be involved.

My problem with this is that they came in to rescue him at the last second, after getting all heavy about their code and rules and whatnot back in the smelting room. Why the about-face? Would have been cooler if they were attacking Mando too, for abandoning the code.

Some other things that bothered me:

It might seem minor, but I hate how Mando walked into the smelting room and Mando Queen was just sitting there stoic. I hate when movies pull that shit. Immediately reminded me of Crystal Skull, when the guys dropped out of the cave walls. Had they just been sitting there for years, waiting for someone to try to infiltrate their cave? This scene with Mando Queen felt the same.

The speeder truck looked shitty, as did some of the action choreography. And Carl Weathers overplayed his hand here; he's a pretty bad actor, I think. Also it looks like he has more teeth than a normal person.

since he was looking at it from the perspective of a grown adult, he had expectations that were not met. He readjusted those expectations for a children's show (what Star Wars is all about!®) and it's much better.

I don't want this to be the case.

Overall a big drop in quality from the last two. Some plot holes, some low-budget vibes, some flat-out bad acting (the BY doctor was also pretty awful). I'm all for fun and hokey, but there's a line.

they probably did the about face because they realized BY reminded them of many of their children during the purge.

It seems clear to me that they help him because of the scene in the armory. "This is the way."

Also, I think the helmet thing is more about battle & interaction with outsiders than a literal thing.

Watching again. Chow & her DP know how to light a fucking scene. Jesus.

This makes more sense to me than joe’s rationale in the next post. “The Way” also includes not taking an interest in your bounty, so that would be in direct conflict with some sort of code of mutual support of all bounty hunters.

Keep in mind that not all Mandalorians are bounty hunters. The "code" the Favro-lorian is taking about in that armory scene has nothing at all to do with the Guild code. Totally different things/concepts.

One big issue I have so far is that in terms of structure and stakes this thing is way too much like an animated show or a video game. Things are too easy. A quick montage, a brief scene with light conflict that's quickly resolved, on to the next mission. Loads of expository dialogue. This ep is the lightest on that stuff so far but it's all still there. That's on Favreau.

Chapter 1 was clearly directed by a guy who does animation but has never direct live action before. I love Filoni but compared to the two follow-up chapters homeboy is legit out of his depth.

I'm sure he'll get there, though.

Chapter 4: The Inside Job

Good not great. Production values are generally good. Unremarkable music. I came in expecting something like Rogue One narrative quality. Not there yet.

I liked the second ep better than the first. I’m fully onboard with the main theme music. The rest is pedestrian. I think my expectations going in were too high in terms of the narrative and thus I’m left a bit wanting at the story being told thus far, i.e. “when is this show going to kick into high gear?” The stakes feel too low. I’m probably judging it too harshly and need to give it time to develop.

Each episode is better than the last. I liked the score throughout in E3. Agree with everything durdencommatyler said. Action sequences are good but clunky. I expect Mandos to fight at Jason Bourne speed. They all moved like overweight chonks with jetpacks. WHEN CAN I BUY THE ALL-BESKAR MANDO ACTION FIGURE?

But i think joey nailed it. This feels like a quick snippet of a sotry that sits along side the little youtube cartoons they were doing. There doesn't seem to be much depth. Or, when there is, its quickly montaged over.

This is so good it deserves to be fleshed out.

The speeder shootout was like Billy the Kid poppin out of the trunk at the end of Young Guns.

It's like a Flash Gordon serial, exactly what Star Wars was so heavily influenced by. It will slowly reveal itself to be involved more than that, but right now I'm ok with it being a contained, simple story.
