Re: The Stand-up Comedian Thread
Watched the Birbigs special last night and there was one part that had me laughing so hard I was crying and actually ended up with a bit of a headache.
It wasn't even that funny of a scene - and to be honest the special isn't as funny as his other stuff - but it was just the way it set itself in my mind that made it hilarious.
The special is good, don't get me wrong, it's just not as funny. I would recommend it to all of the new parents though.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

After the Righteous Gemstones I am very skeptical about RM recommendations but I loved this guy on OITNB so I am gonna give this a chance.

If you like it definitely check out his other specials. the one story about him and being the featured comedian at a cancer event is hilarious.

Re: The Stand-up Comedian Thread
the part where he put that thing on and said he took it to a local tailor is what got me the hardest. Just imagining him wearing it into the tailor and asking for another one and the guy looking at him like an insane person...

Re: The Stand-up Comedian Thread
yah, the special is great. i saw it live about 18 months ago when he was working it out at a local theater for a weekend. you prob need to have kids to really appreciate it but the fact i didn't want kids and had a 18 month old when i saw it was just perfect. my wife was sick so didn't make the show but we watched this together on netflix. wasn't as good with the kid 3.5 for some reason (prob not as much chaos) but it was still great.

Re: The Stand-up Comedian Thread
Watched it with Mrs. Bam and we both really enjoyed it. Thanks for the rec! The toy drop was amazing and I forgot that we had even owned half that stuff. Already feels like decades ago.bune wrote:Watched the Birbigs special last night and there was one part that had me laughing so hard I was crying and actually ended up with a bit of a headache.

Re: The Stand-up Comedian Thread
Bump on the Birbiglia conversation. I watched this special a few days ago on trag and bune's recommendation and I'm a fan. The part about his wife and the baby forming a new "we" hit close to home. He's a great storyteller.
I've started checking out his podcast, The Old Ones. You guys should seek it out if you haven't already. Good conversations with comedians about the biz and such.

I liked the podcast. I'd like it more if he kept it going but oh well.washing machine wrote:Bump on the Birbiglia conversation. also he's not a great comedian but you're right, he is a great storyteller. I first heard him on The Moth podcast.
