It was merely ok. I expected so much more. And it was...bland at best.
I have no interest in this one. I swear I can tell just from the trailers whether it's going to be a good or bad Baumbach movie. He's so hit or miss.
yeah he is. There is a lot i liked here, but overall its just too long and most of scenes were unbelievable, too sketchy.
The characters are so cliché it hurts.
It was fun! I expected a little more...maybe a more sinister movie. It was too much of a comedy. But i enjoyed it.
Samara Weaving was wonderful. What a great actress.
Watched Knives Out. Very mediocre. No mystery. More a quirky comedy than anything. Some people were laughing loudly. But not really my kind of humour, even if I did have a few minor laughs. Nicely shot, and very famous cast. Jamie Lee Curtis was awful, but Ana De Armas was a true standout.

I totally understand not loving Knives Out if you thought you were getting a straight murder mystery. Rian's style has never been to deliver something pure genre. He's all about subversion. And to me that's where KO really succeeds and why it's such a great movie. I loved it and I can't wait to see it again.
I will agree with Anders that Ana was just lights out great. But I thought the whole cast, top to bottom, really brought their A games.

I've not seen this movie yet, but based on my reaction to the trailers I'm betting I'll agree with Anders. I found both Looper and TLJ to be wildly uneven, and it was the attempts at silliness or overly touching moments that always took me out of those movies.
I find it to be his most consistent movie in balancing these moments.

I don't recall anything in Knives Out that I would classify as silly or overly touching. But I'll be interested to see how you view the film.

And that's valid. Just my obligatory caution to judge a piece of art by what it is rather than what it isn't.
That’s a valid point, but I think if I didn’t have the love of mystery dramas to pull on, I would like the movie a lot less.
Oh, that's interesting. I wonder if you found the movie a lot funnier/sillier than I did. Perhaps that's the big difference? It's certainly a funny movie but I thought the humor really worked.

That's funny because I think Grand Budapest is my favorite of his works.
Art is awesome. I just love how it can affect different people in such different ways. Was there something specific about Knives Out that reminded you of Grand Budapest?

I felt it was 100% a comedy. The theatre I was at was 2/3rds full, and oddly to me, there were often people laughing loudly.
