I liked the second ep better than the first. I’m fully onboard with the main theme music. The rest is pedestrian. I think my expectations going in were too high in terms of the narrative and thus I’m left a bit wanting at the story being told thus far, i.e. “when is this show going to kick into high gear?” The stakes feel too low. I’m probably judging it too harshly and need to give it time to develop.
Each episode is better than the last. I liked the score throughout in E3. Agree with everything durdencommatyler said. Action sequences are good but clunky. I expect Mandos to fight at Jason Bourne speed. They all moved like overweight chonks with jetpacks. WHEN CAN I BUY THE ALL-BESKAR MANDO ACTION FIGURE?
I enjoyed this ep but it was not an improvement. I'm still struggling to reconcile my expectations and desire for higher stakes with what we're being given (though I recognize high stakes may be right in front of our faces with Baby Yoda and what his existence could mean). I'm in love with the theme song. Gina Carano is not good at acting. The script isn't doing her any favors either. The bar server's performance made Gina Carano look like Meryl Streep (FYI: that was Josh Gad's wife).
Episode 5 looked good. That’s about all I can say that’s positive. The show is fine for what it is but this isn’t what I was hoping for (stakes, plot, darker tone, good acting, a good score, Ewoks, etc.). The whole affair feels way too conservative.
That was a fun episode from top to bottom. Looked great.

None of you caught that it was dave filoni in the x wing? Rick Famuyiwa, who directed this episode and the second episode and Deborah Chow who did one too and doing the entire obi wan series were the other two pilots

Chapter 6 was probably my favorite of the stand alone episodes. Felt more star warsy

I like the NR prison ship, and the look of the NR pilot / guard dude.

So far its Rick Famuyiwa who handles this thing at its best. Im worried about Chow doing all the Obi Wan series....She got great work ( better call saul and Mr Robot) but her episode was a let down.

I agree with a lot of what you say there. At the same time, the production design, framing and Photography were so much better than the previous ones i realized i liked it.

But yeah, overall this show is sooo hit or miss it kinda hurts.

Chow's ep has been far and away the best of the 4 I've seen. But even that one I'd rate at a B+. There hasn't been a great episode yet (that I've seen; I'm still two behind).

The twileks were beyond awful. Utterly horribly written and acted.

Awful.

The girl one was tonks in the Harry Potter movies.

She was especially bad here.

I mean... I feel like you could tell that from the trailer. The shots of the Twileks we saw in the promo stuff was some of the stuff that had me worried about the look of the show.

But I need to reserve judgement until I watch it.

buncha wet blankets in here. this show is fun and, for my money, has been the most ‘star wars’ since the original star wars. hook this shit to my veins.

me too.

i love that the episodes are largely old-school, self contained ‘adventures of the week’ that takes us to different places and characters- it’s been awhile since i watched a show like this. no, the wire this ain't. but even so i’m simply finding it hard to be on board with a lot of the criticisms lobbied against it, to be honest. and to each their own, of course, but this show so far just makes me happy, and grateful that i’m really enjoying new star wars when i watch it. even the couple 'filler' episodes that people especially shat on were enjoyable to me. i mean, fuck, that scene with the at-st and its red eyes emerging from the forest was bad ass, fun star wars shit, and none of it was any worse than the entire endor stuff in return of the jedi. that's not the highest bar, no, but we've all seen with the prequels how low the bar can really get.

like i said, this show feels closest in execution to the original star wars than any other i've seen, and star wars/a new hope certainly suffered its share of criticisms of bad acting, not always great looking effects, and questionable writing. one thread common in many of those reviews - good or bad - was that star wars wasn't the greatest movie, but if one just let themselves have fun they would. so maybe when people stop fretting over what they think this show should or could be and continually being disappointed that their hopes and/or expectations aren't what is playing out, maybe the attitudes will turn around. or maybe not, i don't know. i'm just tired of all the complaining i guess. i think the response to the last jedi has brought this out in me.

anyway, the mandalorian has been incredibly fun, and i'm glad it's here.
