Yea this is really one of my only complaints. He escapes the first order, ends up on jakku and then what?

Poor choice. Should have utilized a few scenes of him getting off the planet with a why and how in order to flesh his character out. Even if only a little bit.

He was originally meant to die at that point I believe.

One could say he did, specially with his role in TLJ.

Reading "resistence reborn" and it is dealing a lot with Poe's emotional struggles after the mistakes he made in TLJ. I fucking love it. Really drives the points home that were made in TLJ. One statement he comes to terms with was something along the lines of "I led a coup against my own side and now they're all dead"

Hell yea. His role wasn't reduced in the last jedi. It was fantastic.

I also agree with this. But I think it has to do with rewrites during production. Poe died in the script. Isaac convinced JJ to let Poe live.

Didn’t see his Fucking training montage or even any of his skills. He arrives prepackaged.

But no questions asked. Grand. He’s the baddie.
Which would have been fine if Rey had shown up like that too, and we were given some backstory about her spending years of training - like we did with Kylo. Problem is - we see Rey struggling to survive and having no super powers - then suddenly she does. I get that the director meant for that, but his handling was sloppy
She struggles to survive due to her circumstances, but she handles that struggle well. I found her quite crafty at the start, I even thought she was a sand person.
So basically, Johnson and May spent Trump's presidency fighting each other over how best to sell the NHS to Trump.

That was the one flaw of the film for me, he was handled terribly. The first time you see him after he "dies", he's unrecognisable as he's wearing a helmet! I thought that pilot was a different character until after I saw TLJ!

Watched this again last night. The first 30-45 minutes is one of the best stretches in the entire saga. The last half is kind of a mess.

The first 20 look so good. And the sequence with the First Order arriving for Poe is awesome.

The introduction to Rey is perfect.

Couldn’t agree more.

Taking it slow soft Rey intro also echoing ANHs early part but in th best way.

MD asked in the TROS thread, if it made me like TLJ better, and that’s something I have to think about. But I do think I’ve gotten a stronger appreciation for TFA. Once you have the whole story, this movie feels just right.

He’s totally right. This elevated both tfa and tlj in whole new ways I never imagined

Spoiler: show
I feel like TROS is much more in sync with TFA, but TLJ clearly develops the Kylo/Rey special connection through the force, which is vital in TROS.

I think this movie is the easiest movie to watch out of of the Disney-era of Star Wars. Very entertaining and fun.

Just finished rewatching this to get the bad taste of Rise out of my mouth. This is light years better than Rise in every way...and it’s a retread of A New Hope.
