It's cool to not like SW now and for good reasons. Disney usurped a beloved property, thinking they could purchase nostalgia and spoon feed it to the masses. Well, "can't buy me love". There's no good or original idea in these films. Just recycled shit.

This isn't true.

Can you name any?

-The decision to end the Jedi order
-A female force user as the lead
-Exploration of the gray area of Force users on film
-A more diverse cast in general

Wasn't the Jedi order pretty much over with anyway? By the end of the OT, there was only Luke, right? Now there's only Rey? What's the difference?
A female lead is nothing new or original. There have been females using the force in the prequels.
I don't see how gray area of force using is anything special or interesting in these movies.
Diversity in cast is cool, but it's nothing new in movies in general these days.

- Luke made a decision to end the order rather than someone else destroying it.
- Name two. And not a lead though. This is a very big thing for the series.
- That is your opinion.
- It is for the series. It's making these movies for the a new generation of people.

For the series, sure. But there are other movies with plenty of interesting female characters. SW is doing nothing new.
It is. I don't find these movies the least bit interesting.
Why does this series matter, though? There are plenty of other, more interesting movies.

Why does any movie exist? How many are released now that are truly original? Interest is subjective.

Any art can/should exist just because an artist wants it to. That doesn't inherently make it good or interesting.

A movie is good/enjoyable for me when it feels like it was created from a place of passion. Like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. That movie is oozing with love/joy. These movies feel like they were made by a computer algorithm.

I can understand where you're coming from.

The Last Jedi was the work of one person. Written and directed by one guy. I think it had a lot of that love and joy in it.

This conversation just speaks to the undeniable subjectivity of art. The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi both filled me with joy. So much so with TFA that it ignited a genuine passion in me for Star Wars -- something that had never really been a big part of my life.

On the other hand Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is not for me. There's very little about that movie that I find entertaining. I can tell Tarantino approached the movie with great passion but that didn't amount to much for me.

Well, what particularly is annoying about these movies to me is the lack of any real substance where there maybe could have been some with a little inspiration. There should be some kind of message or point to the story, right? It seems like the whole point is: look! light sabers! tie fighters! x-wings! etc etc

If that's all you get out of it then that's fine. But I find there's a ton to mine. The themes in the ST are deeply meaningful and complex to me. I find a lot to value in these films. Some big, heavy ideas/themes. But again everyone takes this stuff in differently. No one's right or wrong.

Like Qui Gon said, "Your focus determines your reality." We're just focusing on different things, probably.

I don't care what happens to any of the characters at this point. That was before I read/heard spoilers. Now I especially don't care. Not interesting. The action scenes might be fun. Not worth it.
