Re: The 45th POTUS - Donald J. Trump
welp....

Over the last couple of weeks, President Trump hit upon a new line of defense against impeachment. Seizing upon a passage in the transcript of the phone call where he asked Ukraine’s president to investigate the Bidens, Trump highlighted his use of the word us, employing the argument repeatedly. “With the word ‘us’ I am referring to the United States, our Country,” he tweeted earlier this month. “I said do us a favor, not me, and our country, not a campaign,” he wrote in his diatribe to Nancy Pelosi, showing a heretofore absent gusto for Talmudic analysis.
But Trump couldn’t even keep this line straight in his head long enough to last through the impeachment vote itself. At his rally (scheduled last night during the vote, to soothe his psychic pain and presumably distract him from acting out in more destructive fashion), Trump repeatedly used the first-person plural to describe himself. “It doesn’t really feel like we’re being impeached,” he said. “We did nothing wrong. We did nothing wrong and we have tremendous support in the Republican Party, like we’ve never had before, nobody’s ever had this kind of support … The people are trying to impeach us for doing all of the things that they’ve wanted to do for so many years.”
Well, so much for the argument that Trump would never use the first-person plural to describe himself.

Ah, I had heard a snippet on a news show that Mulvaney was expected to leave early next year. I should have looked before posting.

Re: The 45th POTUS - Donald J. Trump
Mulvaney exit rumors have existed for a while, going back even before his slip up. They’ve always been met with skepticism, though, because in Trump’s understaffed White House he basically does the work of three positions. Tossing him out means an almost total vacuum of leadership. A lot of unfilled jobs have been folded into the COS role. Hell, he’s STILL the OMB.
The other cause for skepticism was that Trump had, if you’ll recall, a terrible time finding someone who was willing to step into the role after Kelly left. No one wanted the job. They tried to give it to a Pence staff member, Mark Meadows, Rick Santorum, Chris Christie.....nobody wanted it. Even Kushner didn’t want it at that time! Trump was embarrassed and frustrated, telling stupid lies about having lots of people begging for the job....it’s the type of embarrassment he can’t stand. The “you’re fired” guy can’t get an applicant to save his soul.
So while the idea of Mulvaney leaving has been out there for a while, it really is a shock that it would actually happen.

Maybe Meadows is up for it now, and that’s why he’s leaving the House. Otherwise I don’t see how we don’t end up with COS Miller, or Ivanka, or something.

hasn't he had several chances to 'have his day in court'? or maybe he just means a friendly court.

Exactly. They were invited to participate in the inquiry but chose not to. They also refused to provide exculpatory evidence that could have prevented impeachment. Had Mulvaney or Bolton or Trump himself testified, it could have shed much more light on what happened surrounding the call and what his intentions during the call were. Instead they defended themselves only by saying they couldn’t establish a direct line to the president (which they ignore is completely because the White House stonewalled any witness that would have provided evidence in either direction concerning that direct line). They have all also conveniently forgotten that circumstantial evidence is (1) evidence; and (2) most often admissible in a court unless a evidentiary rule prohibits it for a particular reason.bune wrote:hasn't he had several chances to 'have his day in court'? or maybe he just means a friendly court.
