I thought Lucas had a multi year outline for Star Wars when he wrote the first movie. Although, there were certainly things changed along the way.

He very much did not.

GL changed his tune so many times throughout the decades who knows what his original intent was.

Those that read books that authors spent many hours researching to determine that he did not have multiple movies planned out at the onset. And the authors of those books.

That’s a huge retcon. Read the books.

He also says the whole thing was planned out as the story of Anakin Skywalker. Nope. Not at all. Read the books.

This is basically the general story I’ve heard since the 80s, that is why he chose to rename the first one episode 4.

I am truly not convinced he had this thing planned out. No way he would have had siblings kids if he did. And to be able to keep the secret for that long about who Darth Vader really was....

If he truly didn’t believe it would be a success then why would he not have that MAJOR story implication be played out in a new hope? Or as a director ...not utilize that to help the actors In understanding the story and their roles.

I still own a Star Wars encyclopedia that his company put out in the earliest of 80’s, which says (among other things) that Owen and Obi Wan are brothers and that Anakin left the service after the Clone Wars to serve on a spice freighter. The whole book is basically one big denial that they knew what story they were about to tell.

You shouldn’t be. Because he didn’t. Vader wasn’t even the father until the second draft of ESB. Leigh Brackett’s first draft had him and Anakin still as separate people.

Darth Vader as Luke’s father was a decision made in front of Empire. Originally Luke’s father had been killed by Vader.

Same with Leia being a Skywalker.
