The Zorii Bliss and Babu Frik part of the movie was a highlight for me. The chemistry between Isaac and Russell was really good. I would like to see more from her character, even a series.

Just read a few posts that could be total BS from purported Lucasfilm insiders, but thought for what it is worth seems feasible. A few people who worked on the films have come out and said that JJ hated what Rian did with Last Jedi because it cut the legs out of all of the new ideas he had. Rey is nobody, Snoke is irrelevant, Luke is not Obi-Wan 2.0, etc.

The Kennedy lead Lucasfilm group loves Rian but Disney head honcho Bob Iger thought Last Jedi was a trainwreck for the franchise fracturing the fanbase, and after Colin Trevorrow was removed from the project, Kennedy wanted Rian Johnson to do IX, Iger refused and gave it to JJ.

So JJ consulted with Lucas since he had to go back to square one and they built a story around the Dagger of Mortis and closely related to the Clone Wars TV show. However, that storyline was rejected by Disney and so not only did JJ have to fix Last Jedi in Disney's eyes, he had to fix his and Lucas's ideas with Disney.

This is why the film was done so late and so many reshoots happened. I actually believe this because it makes sense. Why would they have Palpatine be the main bad guy again? JJ wanted Son of Mortis played by Matt Smith to be the main villain--his name was leaked to be involved and then was quickly deleted from any cast listings-- with Palpatine in the background but Disney thought it would be too confusing. So many reshoots left JJ unhappy and many of his and Lucas storylines ended up on the cutting room floor. This also makes sense because the family connection of Jannah is in the Visual Dictionary, as well as more detailed information that did not get included in the film. Maybe the novelization will pull some of this together.

This assumes with the mixed review of the film that Kennedy has a short timeline left at Lucasfilm, because under her leadership there has been a lot of turmoil on the film side of Star Wars, but that has been said for a few years now. However, with the success of Mandalorian, I think Jon Favreau might find his way closer to that spot sooner than later. He and Kevin Feige had a lot to do with the rise of the MCU and Feige is reported to be interested in developing a Star Wars movie.

I just read some of that stuff. I wonder if they'll release different cuts. It sounds like they have nearly another movie somewhere. This movie certainly feels like it was cut to pieces.

Good point. Part of the fun of this movie was that it was just pure Star Wars. The humour, the action, the story. If you overanalyze a simple scene like that, then I feel like you are looking in the wrong place.

Kathrine Kennedy is no Kevin Feige. If Disney had made even a rough outline of this trilogy ahead of time, none of these problems would have existed.

Personally, I waited a long time to respond because I wanted to take it all in. While I enjoyed some parts very much, and the 2nd half of the film is very enjoyable with some great moments. The entire film to me felt rushed. Once again JJ, just introduces characters with no time to tell there story and just made characters appear where they needed to be because that's what had to happen.

The first 45 minutes of the movie is just unwatchable. They rush right into Palpatine, the explanations that they gave while they do give some answers, retconn most of the last jedi. Removing tran from basically the entire movie was ridiculous, there are so many things that I felt that they just let the ball drop with. Building a movie around the 9 minutes they had left of Carrie Fisher was just a bad mistake. They needed more time to make a third film and Disney just didn't want to take any chances with this film. That said, I hope Kathleen Kennedy is forced out the door on January 1st 2020. Time to let Filoni, Favreau & Feige see what they can do. I would wait well beyond 2022. Do the Disney plus TV shows and build that brand.

And her chemistry with Poe? There wasnt any.

the Felicity girl reminded me of that assassin from the prequels that gets killed by Fett. She had about as much depth and reason to be in the movie.

Her only purpose seemed to be to demonstrate that Poe isn’t gay for Finn.
