I think if we got the movie theplatypus is indicating that episode 9 could have been, it would not have felt like Star Wars, and I do not believe that I would have liked it, much like TLJ.

This is probably clear from my posts but I have no nostalgic connection to Star Wars so I couldn't care less if something "feels like Star Wars." I want a movie I find compelling on its own merits, not based on how much it reminds me of my childhood or whatever.

It’s not about nostalgia. It’s about delivering in the best movie franchise of all time. The Rise Of Skywalker does so by being the best movie in the sequel trilogy. I loved it both times I saw it, and will probably watch it many more times in the future.

If McDonald’s replaced the McFlurry with tofu there’d be riots.

You don’t break your brand.

This is only the start of a process. This trilogy is a foothold. It will go on from here.

Maybe someday I will watch it a second time. When I walked out of the theater, I didn't hate it; my feeling was "ehh it was alright." But the more I thought about it, I started liking it less and less.

As a film or because of innate comparison to previous entries?

My first time was more exciting, because of not knowing, and the tension in the build up. Going in two days later I was uncertain how it would feel. However, what felt like a hectic start the first time, no longer did. The pacing in general was a lot better without the uncertainty of what was to come. Once the second half kicked in, I was as sold as the first time, and time flew by.

Hopefully once we get a new non-Skywalker trilogy, they will do so in a much better way than what was described.

I didn't even describe anything, I just said that TROS took all the interesting opportunities provided by TLJ and did the cowardly thing by saying "actually, let's just do episode 6 again... but bigger"

«Kylo Ren is beyond redemption; he is not Anakin Skywalker, he is now effectively the Big Bad, he has smashed his helmet after realizing that he only wears it to emulate Darth Vader, and he is not Darth Vader. The Force is a thing that you don't need to have "special blood" to tap into; it's this universal life force that anyone can access, and Rey is just a regular person who is sensitive to it. The war is more than just evil space wizards versus good space wizards; it is a consequence of avarice and greed of the ruling class, and the folk legend of the Jedi and the resistance will encourage the oppressed to rise above their station and fight.»

Ah. Yes, I thought you were talking about the hypothetical version of TROS that actually had some courage.

Has Ridley been in any other movies besides Star Wars movies? She's probably gonna get the Mark Hamill treatment from Hollywood. I think she may have a somewhat limited range but she's good at what she does (but after three movies, the act has worn thin). Hard to tell.

Driver already has a big career. He's too good for this nonsense.

To echo what everyone else said, I don't have a problem with any of the actors. They did the best they could with the crap they we given.

Based fully on TFA and to a minor degree on TLJ, Rey not being connected to someone, and Kylo being the main villain, would have been very poor decisions, and that has nothing to do with bravery. Like I’ve pointed out before, no one else in the trilogy is connected to anyone. All of it has to do with the story told in TFA.

You don’t have to be a Skywalker/Palpatine to use the force, never have. But the power involved from Palpatine is extremely powerful (Phantom Menace/Revenge Of The Sith/Return Of The Jedi). And that is a vital part of this nine movie saga. To ignore with many of the same characters would make for poor storytelling.

Think she was poor there, but time will tell. Her best performance yet was in TROS.

Driver is probably an A-lister in the coming decade.

I enjoyed it the best out of the sequels. I liked the pacing in the beginning....one adventure to the next like an old serial. It bogged down a bit towards the end of the second act. I was spoiler free but nothing really surprised me. I like Kylo and Rey. Everyone else was fine but kinda just there. It basically put everyone back to where they ended with Jedi. Kinda makes you wonder what the point was outside of seeing our favorites from the original trilogy die in unsatisfying ways. It was fun afternoon with the family though. Wife and kids loved it. It's hard not to get swept up in their enthusiasm. Could have used baby yoda.
