Other than Whedon’s run, the characters haven’t been likable since before Morrison’s run 20 years ago.bada wrote:I'm not finding the characters likable. They aren't really superheroes anymore. The message seems to be mutants will eventually replace humans and humans hate us anyways so screw them we are gonna do us and build a independent nation and wait for you to die off. In the meantime we are going to use our knowledge of the future to prevent an organization of humans from killing us (they hate us just because) and some super advanced A.I. from taking over the universe a millennia from now. I find myself not caring.....and the art sucks.VinylGuy wrote:why?bada wrote:I think I'm over Hickman's X-Men already. I'm surprised since I'm a big fan but its not working for me.
I havent read them yet.

is Doomsday Clock enough of a contained story, or do I need to read other stuff as well? I was waiting until this book was out to start.

Well....the more you know about DC history the better if you want to catch every reference. You might want to read DC Rebirth #1 and the four part Batman/Flash crossover "The Button" before Doomsday Clock.....maybe wiki The New 52. That "reboot" is very important to the story.bune wrote: is Doomsday Clock enough of a contained story, or do I need to read other stuff as well? I was waiting until this book was out to start.

Maybe down the line....the creative team said they have an idea for a sequel. Probably depends on the reaction to Doomsday Clock.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
this one comic podcast I listen to thought it was convenient that the TV show and the oh-so-often-delayed comic would be something that tied them together. Sounds like that didn't happen.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
2019 was pretty eventful year. Tom King wrapped up his Batman run that had moments of absolute brilliance and moments of utter stupidity. Jason Aaron ended his 7 year Thor run on a high note with King Thor. Johns finished Doomsday Clock which fixed a lot of self inflicted wounds and put the DC Universe in a great place. Whether it was a worthy sequel to Watchmen I don't know. Hickman took over X-Men, knocked me out with the first few issues and just as quickly lost me. As of today Conan The Barbarian is the only Marvel title I'm following which is weird. Bendis outed Superman, unnecessarily aged Jon Kent and has for the most part made Superman unreadable. Dark Horses Black Hammer wrapped this year and will be missed though tales from that universe will continue. Snyder's run on Justice League is almost up and based on future solicitations it looks like the book will be entering a mediocre phase. Images Black Science ended a book I loved but sort of fell apart under its own weight. DC's Black Label overcame the bat penis with a number of cool offerings. Last Knight on Earth being a real stand out. 2020? Hopefully Hickman finishes East of West. A sequel to Dark Nights: Metal? A new creative team for Batman? Maybe a Marvel book will catch my interest? I don't know not a lot to be excited about.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
Nope. I barely read comics tbh...a lot of what I do read come from recommendations and hype about a book.
currently I'm reading through the IDW run of Ghostbusters because I got them from a Humble Bundle a few years ago. They're decent and capture the sound of the guys from the movie pretty well. and yeah, it's taken me a few years to get to them because I barely read them. it's tough even when they're digital.

Check out ALL of Brubaker’s creator owned catalogue. There’s a lot of variety and even the weakest of them is better than 99% of what’s on the stands right now. Trust me. You won’t regret it.
