Then fuckin Han

So beautifully done too. You can accuse this film of many things. That’s flawless though.

They wrote that and landed it beautifully.
Yes, probably the best part of the movie. Amazing.

What’s your take on what Leia does?
What I know for sure is that Leia was "wounded" or "drained" by what she did to survive the events of The Last Jedi (Carrie Poppins, etc). I believe that she used her remaining life force to project herself to Ben, just like Luke did in TLJ. However, because Leia was so drained and weakened and because she wasn't the full Master that Luke was, she wasn't able to fully manifest herself in physical form. So the projection came across as a voice and a feeling. This is what ultimately "killed" her.

What I don't fully understand or have a concrete opinion about is why her body doesn't become one with the Force until Ben's does. I think there are a ton of possible answers to this and one of them (at least partially) is what you suggest; that she evoked Han's memory at that crucial moment, and somehow her being became linked with Ben's. I think that's really interesting.

Good answer. I am happy Leia got a big role in this movie. Amazing that they pulled it off, and especially this powerful segment.

I agree. Seeing Leia have a meaningful and powerful end/resolution was something that meant a lot to me. I didn't know how badly I wanted it even until the movie started. Given the real world circumstances, it was a fantastic and well-deserved farewell to one of the saga's best characters, regardless of how one fully interprets what happened. It was wonderful.

It could have been the wonderful, but the breakneck pace and the lack of footage with Carrie Fisher robbed a lot of the emotional weight.

I can understand this, though I disagree.

The pace of this movie really doesn't bother me at all.

Leia dies in a 7 second clip of her, Chewie cries (definitely the most emotional part of the movie), and then everybody just kind of moves on. I think the prevalence of force healing diminishes the impact of her death in an indirect way.

Does Obi-Wan get more in the OT; does Vader? Does Padme in the PT? Does Han in the ST?

This is Star Wars. Taking time to stop the serialized adventure story to mourn is not a part of its DNA. And I'm fine with that.

It feels like modern day "anit-hero" "slow-burn" TV has affected peoples' expectations of Star Wars. This was never that.

Her sacrifice comes out of nowhere, the specific act is 10 seconds of screen time, and then Kylo is healed immediately afterwards. It is not clear that Leia was watching/sensing their fight, nor is their indication of who would have "won" it without her interruption. I don't expect there to be a 10 minute funeral scene, but it could have served as a the emotional cornerstone that starts the third act, but it just seems rushed instead.

I’ll be very surprised if it doesn’t reach the top three Star Wars movies of all time at the box office, alongside the other two sequels.

Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" pod as a great ep with a scientist who talks about why humans love conspiracy theories.
