well red mosquito and lukin are rock songs. im not sure what you would call sometimes, i think thats part of the reason i love it so much. its still a 4/4 song based on 2 similar riffs. im open is just lame filler.

and i'd say lukin, red mosquito, sometimes, and i'm open are all attempts at eclectic genres considering they're all on one album... furthermore i'd say these songs show more range than the 3 albums before it and the 5 albums since. i am in no way whatsoever claiming pearl jam is the most eclectic band ever, but where they to produce something that was listenable 1-12 and covered the ground that no code does, i'd be a happy man.

u guys are gonna kill me, but dave matthews band's latest album is very eclectic. there's a couple of prog rock songs, gospel inspired stuff, the usual blend of pop, blues and jazz, and a 9 minute long monster of a song at the end thats like 3 different songs in one. but dmb wrote 'satellite' so everyone overlooks them. they've always been more eclectic than pearl jam though.

I absolutely agree that they are diverse. That's why they were my favourite band for so long. But I would call their live sets more 'eclectic' than their albums, although I will acknowledge that they do clash unusual rock styles together sometimes. Often, though, on albums they will unify those tracks with a similar production. Maybe that's happened here, I don't know. But at the moment, the keyboard on Future Days sounds like the Backstreet Boys or Boys II Men, and on an album with MYM? That's weirder than they've been before. Except for possibly on Vitalogy. Possibly, but that's debatable. Not trying to be awkward here, just using different words.

i think all pearl jam albums have range, but no code probably covers the most ground. i still think all those songs fall under the rock n roll umbrella

why do we need to compare pj to anybody else? i certainly didn't invite it. my point was that if they have actually gotten back to an eclectic album (by their own standards), then i'll contact my doctor about my priapism.
