It has taken weekend-to-weekend drops on par with Captain America: Civil War, a film that earned just 2.28x its $179 million debut. Absent the holiday boost, where weekdays play like weekends, J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio’s poorly-reviewed sequel would have likely suffered a similar fate, but without a 33/66 split in terms of overseas strength. Nonetheless, even with the holiday boost, The Rise of Skywalker is tracking for a lower domestic gross than The Last Jedi ($620 million), The Lion King ($543 million) and Rogue One ($532 million).
The only remarkable thing about it is that is probably won't match Rogue One despite a much bigger opening weekend. But yeah, of course Star Wars will make a lot of money for Disney despite continuing to decline, which isn't remarkable.
I saw this movie last night. I'm glad I experienced it in a theater, because I don't think I would have made it through the whole 2+ hours if I were streaming it. The whole "going to the movies" experience made it fun.
This trilogy now feels like Kylo's story is the really important one. Everything having to do with Rey is where most of the plot criticisms seem to hold the most weight. Kylo/Ben's arc is a true to form Star Wars journey.

I hear you.
He steals the show completely here but you have to think about all three together. Jj set them up but Rian developed them as co protagonists and two halves of a whole. And he did it so well. For me jj really developed that and brought it home beautifully.
