"I brought a stopwatch to time the songs..."

i wasn't moving until i read the whole post. thank you. and to those that have shared their thoughts and insights, thank you too. this approach to crowd-sourced/fan-sourced reviews is fun. good job, pearl jam.

If they go totally all-out happy as a piss take it might be OK. I mean, Ed did say that he couldn't make a uke sound sad. Maybe it's an in-joke.

Wow, we finally hit jackpot tonight! My favorite so far is frankm's awesome sketches... but enimmi's writeup was pretty excellent too, especially since it gives me a lot more hope for the second half of the album...

btw, if there is only 1 awful song on here (SBM or FD???), I'll freakin' take that anyday...

And rest assured harmless, the lyrics for LTRP that enimmi just gave us don't sound horrible... at least not yet!

:haha: really? everyone compares GTF to zeppelin. i'm more talkin about at their point in their career. i remember thinking it sounds like a soundtrack to getting abducted by aliens. kinda scary and intriguing at the same time. nothing i never really heard from them. i was also like 13 when the album came out so.
I wasn't familiar enough with Led Zep to know about that, and even now I'm not sure what GTF is supposed to have copied from them. I just haven't bothered to find out. I obviously think those songs are totally awesome now, but that's partly thanks to the benefit of many years of reflection and time spent with them.

This last review has me looking forward to this again. I'm slightly miffed that FD seems to be longer than some of the darker, potentially more interesting songs.

Well done. Nice write up that generates excitement.

BTW was the album played from start to finish or track by track with Bo'B discussing each one? I'm guessing the former as that's usually how it's done. and no one has mentioned otherwise

Just so happens I have my headphones on now!

And my mind is blown. I really like the song, but yeah... melodically very similar in parts.

Violin, mandolin and *real piano* has me hoping that FD won't be nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

not to mention it could explain some of the awkwardness of the "stripped down" live version we've heard.

Absolutely. The keyboard was way too loud against the guitar. And did you hear the big bang when Ed plugs his guitar in during BOB's intro?

Yes, in 'Rise' I think.

By the way, I hate my avatar. I've been an obnoxious dickhead all day because of it.

I'm a bit concerned about the last Lightning Bolt review. I was hoping someone would say "Thank God this is better than the live version."

One day (prob Oct 15) Harmless will appear and say that Wrigley was a pretty faithful live rendition with a couple of flubs.

Really? It's rather obtuse.
