This trilogy now feels like Kylo's story is the really important one. Everything having to do with Rey is where most of the plot criticisms seem to hold the most weight. Kylo/Ben's arc is a true to form Star Wars journey.

He steals the show completely here but you have to think about all three together. Jj set them up but Rian developed them as co protagonists and two halves of a whole. And he did it so well. For me jj really developed that and brought it home beautifully.
That makes sense. Two halves of a whole is a good way to look at their stories. It just feels like one half (Kylo) is much stronger than the other half in terms of storytelling.
I could dictate Kylo's entire arc in an easy, coherent way, if asked. I can't say the same for Rey.
Also, fwiw, that kiss felt really unearned. But then again Star Wars has been notorious for making love stories awkward so I guess that's par for the course.

I’m far more concerned about how they would handle the MGM back catalog, which is one of the great libraries in all of cinema. Locking all that into “the vault” would be a nightmare scenario (just like it already is with Fox).
LVs review / critique are pretty similar to mine. I mean, once I got over the fact that I haven't really loved this sequel trilogy, and the ridiculousness of it all, I just sat back and enjoyed the filmed. It was a fun ride, and where the sequels did succeed is that they are pretty fun movies. The PT was just so dry, not much fun at all. The ST at least got the look right, and brought back some fun adventures. Of all the sequels, I think I enjoyed this one the best. Maybe TLJ is better, but I thought this one was a little more fun. I don't think I'll ever love these films and to me there are some unforgivable flaws overall, but I think they're all pretty enjoyable and I'll most likely rewatch these more often than the prequels.
So I've only seen this once (which is telling in itself) but I have to say that this was pretty disappointing to me. But I still think TLJ is a masterpiece and this clearly moves in a different direction.

One of the crew who watches Chiefs games with us frequently is also a big Star Wars guy. We talked before the movie came out and I told him I was excited and he said he was also excited but really nervous.
Yesterday at the game he asked me what I thought of the movie. I said I loved it. He said, "Goddamnit!"
My wife isn't a big Star Wars fan but she's suffered through my bullshit since they started making new movies again. She's seen all of them with me and has liked them all, more or less. I don't think she's loved any of them. The Force Awakens is probably highest on her list. But the other day she mentioned going with me to see this one again.
I got similar from my boyfriend /not boyfriend. He watched it on his phone in Cambodia and really loved it. And I’m never sure if he suffers my love for Star Wars gracefully or he genuinely likes it. But he loved this one and even watched it again. So ...
This is the first Star Wars movie since the original trilogy that I didn't see in the opening week. Still haven't seen it, and strangely that doesn't bother me - this is where my fandom is at right now
