The Obama years were rough on Pearl Jam.arthurdent wrote:I'm hoping that synth means something like You Are and Mike's quote about it being a dark album makes me think of NAIS and Binaural. I’m not hoping for anything that’s like anything they’ve done previously. I hope it sounds completely new.

Same. Even if it is bad, at least they would be trying stuff.McParadigm wrote:I’m not hoping for anything that’s like anything they’ve done previously. I hope it sounds completely new.

I'm having a hard time calling this optimism.

Id love for this to be on the album. Since we're all being honest here.
If re worked full band with some different instrumentation, perhaps some pedal steel, some added twang, stretched out just a bit.

THANK F*CK they ditched BoB. He was good in their 90s albums, but terrible after that
This Josh Evans guy looks interesting. Look him up on Spotify & he's actually made a couple jazz albums (looks like he's good with trumpet), and he's been credited with various other notable things in the past:
- He was an engineer for Chris Cornell - Chris Cornell in 2018
- He was an additional producer, mixer and engineer for On Earth as It Is: The Complete Works Mother Love Bone in 2016
- He was a guitar tech on Lightning Bolt
- He was an engineer and studio assistant for Soundgarden - King Animal
- He was an engineer for the Can't Deny Me single
- He produced, mixed and engineered the Mad Season/Seattle Symphony: Sonic Evolution album
Linkedin notes:
Audio Engineer for PJ since 2015
Keyboard tech & Guitar tech for Boom & PJ since 2008
Guitar tech for Soundgarden 2010-2017
Monitor Engineer for C Cornell for TOTD in 2016

It's interesting that Out of Sand is not on the Twin Peaks: The Return soundtrack on Spotify.

I’m pretty sure it’s on the CD.durdencommatyler wrote:It's interesting that Out of Sand is not on the Twin Peaks: The Return soundtrack on Spotify.
I think there’s a few songs (deliberately) missing from the streaming versions of both soundtracks from the most recent series.

I’m not convinced there’s any inherent value in doing new things either, it only matters whether the material is any good.dimejinky99 wrote:Monkey_Driven wrote:Same. Definitely plausible. At least it’s made me excited for an album that I previously had no excitement for.tragabigzanda wrote:I kind of think Mike might be sort of a simple and happy guy. He's got his sobriety and his loving family and his jillion guitars, and I think he just sort of coasts through life as a mostly happy person these days. So being pushed to make (presumably) darker music built around darker themes may have been a little out of his comfort zone...Monkey_Driven wrote:Can we talk about this quote from Mike some more?
“Making this record was a long journey,” explains Mike McCready . “It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times."
I also have a hunch that Jeff may have thrown down the gauntlet, to the effect of "Either I get more creative control on this one so I actually feel connected to it, or I'm out." Which if true would probably have been difficult for the band to process.
