I’d love a bunch of stuff like You Are. They really haven’t made an innovative song since.

maybe these are all tracks from the BOB sessions, and Evans was sound engineer, and due to BOB’s pending sale of his royalty rights to his catalogue he couldn’t be the producer on this - so they just let Evans polish it off

The move away from O'Brien alone is enough to pique my interest again; if he was on the boards again I'm honestly not sure I'd have even cared. I can envision "dark, moody synths" going either way, but until I hear it I'm open to it being great.

Beach House would be a good place to start, maybe Future Islands.

Bands, not songs.

Same. Even if it is bad, at least they would be trying stuff.
Whether it's good or bad, we only have so much more music from these guys, and no matter how good it is, if it is familiar it is likely to feel like a shadow of your favorite version of whatever it is. That can still work (Collapse into now was a perfectly fun final album for REM, and most of those songs had clear antecedents), but something new is more likely to stand on its own as an independent thing, and maybe recontextualize what we've had for so long. So I'm hoping for something relatively different.

This will be interesting as this seems to be reasonably akin to a self-produced album, so we'll get a sense of what, circa 2019, Pearl Jam thinks Pearl Jam is, as opposed to what BoB thinks Pearl Jam is

Ehhhh

BACKSPACER
I’m not convinced there’s any inherent value in doing new things either, it only matters whether the material is any good.
this is also true.

the prices at the preorder link on the home page and the prices in the shop on the official site are drastically different.
