Agreed. I do wish Tone was on streaming though.Birds in Hell wrote:Pretty sure Litho still exists.
Revisiting Jeff’s Heaven/Hell now and I think it sounds great.

Seems to be getting new 'unexpected' producers is the latest thing in rock now. We had RHCP go with Danger Mouse, QOTSA went with pop producer Mark Ronson to make the amazing Villains record. very interested to hear what this guy brings to the table for PJ

agreed, it's charted higher and has higher normalized critic rating than the last few PJ albums as well as the last Soundgarden albumStrat wrote:My opinion sucks

I don’t get the sense that Josh Evans was brought in to add a strong musical character of his own to the record so it seems like quite a different circumstance to those above.pappas wrote:Seems to be getting new 'unexpected' producers is the latest thing in rock now. Right. I get a sense he’s more of a Steve Albini type where he just lets bands do their thing. Like, he understands the band is going for a certain sound/vibe, and he’s not trying to get in the way. He’s just going to do his best to capture it.Birds in Hell wrote:I don’t get the sense that Josh Evans was brought in to add a strong musical character of his own to the record so it seems like quite a different circumstance to those above.pappas wrote:Seems to be getting new 'unexpected' producers is the latest thing in rock now. yeah this is the guy you get when you want/need to record completely on your own terms, whenever/however you want. for all intents and purposes, this one is produced by pearl jam.Birds in Hell wrote:I don’t get the sense that Josh Evans was brought in to add a strong musical character of his own to the record so it seems like quite a different circumstance to those above.pappas wrote:Seems to be getting new 'unexpected' producers is the latest thing in rock now. Re: Josh Evans the producer
yeah that's best case scenario for him here.tragabigzanda wrote:Let's not forget that he's not only a producer, but also a keyboard tech. So while I suspect he probably is more of a "I'm here to support your vision" kind of guy, I wouldn't be surprised if he wound up being integral to any synth stuff that may wind up on here. Jeff's synth sounds with RNDM have been fairly basic patches; could be that his mark is on the album in helping the band explore and articulate some new sounds.
1. he's there to facilitate.
2. he's there to add his specific version of expertise via synths or trumpet or whatever.
fingers crossed he genuinely brought something new to the party. he clearly has the confidence of several band members so...

Re: Josh Evans the producer
Don't imagine he would be mentioned so early in the press release if he didn't really bring anything to the table
Thats more of a good to do than a need to do

The only good song is the opening track and like you used to do.

this feels more like ‘interim head coach’ while BOB needed to take a breather for whatever reasons
but maybe there will be a RS article or some interview with Keyboard Tech Monthly that sheds some light on why/how he rose from the ashes of CDM to command the entire forthcoming album

Guess, we well know why they chose him when they make the interview rounds.
Maybe a couple of videos like LB? a Danny Clinch video?
