I wonder if knowledge of this Mr. Mercedes will spoil anything for me as a non-SK reading watcher? If not, then may I ask what Mr. Mercedes is all about?

It's a trilogy King did a few years back about a private detective. That's all I'll say here because I don't know what (if anything) could "spoil" anything in The Outsider.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Bateman’s dead?! Wtf. And the posts indicating that Holly is a boring character are concerning.
Still, the first two eps were great.
Spoiler: show
I was super dissaponited that he was killed off so early on. I goddamn love bateman.

Or, was it bateman?

Shape shifter sort of thing here going on i presume. Once i reminded myself it was a stephen King story....

Hmm...
Spoiler: show
I hadn't considered that it might not even be Bateman. So curious.
As much as I've enjoyed these first two eps, I'm sort of scared that whatever explanation they offer in the end will be underwhelming or downright silly.
Yea, agreed. Its why im just going to enjoy how it plays out. Something this good can only be a letdown, especially when King is involved.

Binging whole seasons is so unsatisfying to me. I love when we can all watch a series together.

I only watched the first episode, so I'm not going to be reading everyone's posts just yet, but, while I was gripped the whole time, let me say:
Spoiler: show
I DO NOT LIKE SCARY MONSTER SHIT WHERE KIDS CAN SEE THINGS BUT GROWN-UPS CAN'T GOOD GOD I ALMOST TURNED THE TV OFF WHEN THE LITTLE GIRL WAS SITTING ON THE EDGE OF THE BED OH GOOD LORD IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN!
And early in the thread I mentioned how I am overall intrigued with the premise, but that it being a King adaptation made me weary. Most of those fears were unfounded, as these actors are all just top-notch (I fucking ride or die for Bill Camp), however:
Spoiler: show
I could have done without the monster wearing the hoodie in the first episode. It's a shape-shifter who eats kids, I get it. Woo. Wish the mystery could've stretched out a bit longer. (If you've read the book and I'm wrong, please don't tell me. Would love to be surprised.)

What was up with the cop who was hunting in the opening scene? He's got a living boar in his sites, he gets the message to come to work, and he leaves; we then cut to the boar, but it's dead and has flies buzzing around it.

I'm thinking there's more to this guy than meets the eye.

Also I'm not entirely ready yet to commit to there being a supernatural element, based on the Hodges trilogy. And for anyone who's read the book, please don't spoil that for me.
Yeah that boar scene threw me off. I don't know what we're supposed to infer there.

Isn't that just the guy who had to come in because Ralph is on admin leave?
