Re: The Official GIGATON Thread (no real tracklists included
Something too often forgotten about riot act was all written post roskilde. There’s a very dark shroud over that entire record and running all the way through it. If they made *that* kind of record now we’d be all over it.
This shit like can’t deny me and this old men trying to sound young and angry is just embarrassing. It’s of no value to anyone except they themselves maybe. And even then I know they’re not unanimous on the need for it.
Settle down and act your age would be my advice to them.
You’re not gonna top spin or blood. You might hit a hail hail or grievance again. That fits.
But reaching for former glories and failing is just embarrassing. Especially following exactly the same template. Ugh. Amongst the waves a good example.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread (no real tracklists included
I’m hoping for an album that doesn’t inspire reviews like these:
“Backspacer is the sound of a band cashing a paycheck.”
“On Lightning Bolt, Vedder at times sounds like the loon at the back of the bus.”
I’m paraphrasing but I remember reading these and laughing in agreement when each respective album was new.

i wonder if the music will be improved but Ed will still suffer from the same modern ‘too many words’ lyrical style

I just saved a Gigaton on shipping by asking Ten Club for a refund on my preorder.

Gigatron will include a song that makes the 2021 RM March Madness Final 4.stip wrote:Since I quite liked the last two albums, I think my fandom would benefit more from an album RM really loved than one that I did. I'm ready to take one for the team.
But with any band with this kind of longevity I am just happy for new music that produces a few songs that I can add into my regular rotation, and the fact that new music makes me want to go back and listen to the old stuff. After last year's march madness I've barely touched pearl jam. It's nice to have a reason to go back, and to want to go back.

"We could something else" sounds like canned meme-speak -- it's reminds me of when people say things like "Gigaton is going to suck because Pearl Jam," as if omitting words from sentences in order to make them less linguistically fluent inherently carries with it an element of wit or cleverness. It sounds like something out of a Yahoo news gossip article and Eddie sounds ridiculous saying it.stip wrote:agreedevenslow wrote:we could something else is more pithy than we could try something else.dprival78 wrote:this one is truly baffling.theplatypus wrote:Also: "we could something else."

Man, I can't wait to hear analysis/takes on Gigaton from Stip and Kevin Davis. Two gentlemen. Respect each other. Have different opinions; able to articulate differences quite well. #StipKevKevin Davis wrote:"We could something else" sounds like canned meme-speak -- it's reminds me of when people say things like "Gigaton is going to suck because Pearl Jam," as if omitting words from sentences in order to make them less linguistically fluent inherently carries with it an element of wit or cleverness. On an album full of cringe, this might be the most worthy.Kevin Davis wrote:"We could something else" sounds like canned meme-speak -- it's reminds me of when people say things like "Gigaton is going to suck because Pearl Jam," as if omitting words from sentences in order to make them less linguistically fluent inherently carries with it an element of wit or cleverness. so can someone do a Rolling Stones / Pearl Jam thing where as you get older it's harder to make good music?dimejinky99 wrote:Something too often forgotten about riot act was all written post roskilde. Yeah man. It's called Sing Backwards and Weep: A Memoir. A while back he was on Joseph Arthur's podcast and had a really cool talk about the book coming out and a ton of other stuff that might interest you.stip wrote:no. didnt realize he was writing one!verb_to_trust wrote:You see the Lanegan memoir is coming out in April?stip wrote:that was pretty good
