the fixer wins the "most improved" song for me. hated it at first, but upon further review, it a'int so bad. got some is still my favorite song on the album.

When I first heard this album back around when it got put in Rock Band, I was shocked and appalled, because I had only ever heard songs from Ten and going from Ten to Backspacer made me wonder wtf band this was.

Now, after Lightning Bolt, I go back and listen to it, and I honestly think its not that bad, and an interesting experiment. It at least seems to know what album it wants to be and does that.

I really underrated this album at first because it was so different. After Lightning Bolt I now look back fondly on this one. I think that Gonna See My Friend sort of lets it down a bit (Actually it might be the weakest track on the album).

I think with a proper opener this would be a bit better.

But it's such a quick listen. And I'm always surprised by how much I enjoy Johnny Guitar, Amongst the waves, Speed of Sound, Force of Nature, even The End

I’d like it even more if it were closer to Matt’s demo.

Its a great song.

And so is the fixer. Suck it.

I'm Team Fixer too. Honestly, I pretty much just love everything about that damned thing.

Hell, I'll even be team Force of Nature -- I wish it sounded less like generic '70's rock but I like the song.

But if team Leatherman is ever recruiting, I'm defecting.

was looking through the archived thread for my first reaction to this and was struck by how many people unreservedly loved this thing at first. pretty funny.

holy shit. this is really good, leaps and bounds better than s/t. Brendan O'Brien did a pretty good job with this. Not incredibly atmospheric but lots of sound diversity. The songs themselves, everything is interesting. None of it is really conventional in terms of Pearl Jam's music. That was my biggest fear coming into this, that it would be decent but boring, and generic sounding like s/t was.

That's hilarious. Better than even Binaural and Riot Act?

This is the pearl jam i fell in love with.....grown up...
evenslow wrote:Yes. THIS. Well said.

This is going to be the giant cliche for this album, but sometimes cliches are true: This is EASILY their best since Yield. It makes the in-between 3 seem almost non-existent.
