Hey JF, I’m familiar with your writing/fandom. What drove you away from listening for so long? Burnout? LB sucks? Or something else?

Jessica Fletcher wrote:Woah, it's taken me four days to figure out how to login from my last go 'round, which was sometime after LB's release I think? I've been lurking here un-logged-in pretty regularly to bask in the cynicism. Have barely touched a PJ LP/CD/stream for years, and I still can't, really. Try as I might to resist the urge to get my hopes up, the rollout of this album got me pumped. As others have stated, new album cycle time is so hard to resist. This little clip from the BS Podcast has upped the anticipation. I have no doubt it's legit; Simmons has played Corduroy as his intro music for at least two years now, always starts his pods with "and our friends, Pearl Jam". To switch it up and not give any info is telling.

Not sure if the song will be great, but I'm so psyched to hear something different from them. I could get into a lot more of this type of sound. The drums sound great and I agree with the sentiment that the kick and snare could be processed signals of Matt's playing. Love the dirty bass tone. I'm probably going overboard here but that's what these times are for I suppose. I know I'm echoing sentiments of many already, but I'm happy to be logged in. A little embarrassed to be an album-cycle fair-weather poster, but it is what it is. Maybe I'll try my hand at a pun soon. My literary success aside, it's a device I've yet to fully develop.
Hey there, Pine Stater! Welcome back.

it’s clearly PJ

can you imagine a fucking hockey rink full of PJ fans trying to bop to this

puke puke puke puke

maybe if they just slam into Lukin after it will make everything OK
I thought we all wanted them to make music where they weren't worried about the live setting?

The first few seconds reminded me of this cover of Why Go for some reason. Then it evolved into Cannonball by the Breeders as someone else mentioned, then I don't know what the hell after that. It has me intrigued though.

Interesting clip. I wonder if it’s been 6 years because the effort that produced “can’t deny me” was scrapped. I don’t personally care much for the last 2 albums and maybe they didn’t want to continue down that road? Would be a welcome departure. If this album really is trying something new then I’m excited. I thought that clip was pretty corny at first but it grew on me throughout the day.

Thanks folks! I'd say it was burnout. I'm at the point right now where I've listened to Ten-Riot Act for so much of my life now I feel like there's not much to explore. Avo-LB is there, and when I do listen I do find songs that I really dig, but the production is so bad I just don't have the patience. I don't have much to say about PJ 1990-2019; just hopeful for the future.
Edit: oh we also had a kid who’s five now. I guess that kept me busy as well.

This is really reminding me of a band called The Faint. I’m really interested if that’s the direction, with some nice crunchy guitars and some DTE style vocals.
