A24 is such a hipster sham, like 95% of their output sucks

I’m already liking Midsommar less the longer I sit with it.

I noticed you mentioned Under the Silver Late in another thread. I saw that on Prime (actually hadn't heard of it until you mentioned it) and was really surprised to see it was A24.

My wife insisted on a seeing movie after date night dinner last night and we saw “like a boss”. It was possibly the worst movie I have seen in years.

It’s a classic A24 move: they finally release a good movie (a GREAT movie, in fact), but after one rocky screening they lost faith in it and essentially tried to bury it. A24 has this image of catering to artists but they’ll turn on one of their movies (and filmmakers) in a second. They’re awful.

Absolute masterpiece. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since I saw it months ago.

I really want to watch it. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow. It looks right up my alley.

Watching THE TWO POPES right now. The way they dubbed in Spanish dialogue for Bergoglio is distracting

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I enjoyed The Two Popes a lot. The direction is weird and it gets annoyingly preachy at times but I could watch Pryce and Hopkins hang out all day

You're probably thinking of that HBO show The New Pope or The Young Pope or whatever it is. The Two Popes is a Netflix movie

I really hate the way they're painting Bergoglio as some progressive saint when he is as big a piece of shit as the rest of the institution

tragabigzanda wrote:Random thought: I read a memoir a few years ago called The Little Way of Ruthie Lemming. One aspect of this book was how the author's upbringing in evangelical Christianity sort of prepared him to be attracted to the mysticism of Catholicism later in life.

Having grown up surrounded by Catholics, and watching the church crumble after the abuse scandals, the idea of Catholicism being something "attractive" is simultaneously boring and off-putting for me.

Do you RMers who are watching these pope movies and shows have much first-hand experience with Catholicism, or is it kind of foreign and therefore interesting to you?
Catholicism is not at all what made TTP interesting to me

I was raised Catholic. If anything that makes it more interesting to me. The rituals, processions, clerical protocol, this is all part of the language I grew up with
