Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
Well, that was certainly a most pleasant surprise. Love that Ed has sung within himself - adds a lot. The David Byrne aping is fine by me - all music is copying something else, is it not? And hell, it fits the song.
Production sounds excellent to my ears, enjoying the music too. Love that it's different from all that's come before it too.
Well done Pearl Jam. A good release that makes me more excited for the album proper.

I don’t need context to justify calling this good. Its just good.evenslow wrote:let's think big picture here.
GUYS, again, the comparison at this point in their career is VOODOO LOUNGE.
this is miles beyond that shit. they're 30 years in, coming off an average, by-the-numbers album and a TRUE low point single (CDM) and.. and... somehow came up with this! something they've literally never done before!
color me way more encouraged than i was just a few weeks ago.
don't look a gift horse in the mouth, this is good shit Jamily.

Its different for Pearl Jam, but not very different compared to those other bandsRob wrote:I hear talking heads & modest mouse. If you wanted something new & different, I think this is it. I’m not gonna judge it now but once thru and I’m still excited.

Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
It's really just that opening verse. It's really an aping of his style, to the point where it's a bit off putting. Once it gets past that, I like it a lot more.Higgs wrote:Well, that was certainly a most pleasant surprise. Love that Ed has sung within himself - adds a lot. Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
Ed is staying in range, and sounds great... Hope this bodes well for the album.
This sounds entirely different than what we've gotten from the guys since RA, arguably. Again, hope this bodes well for the album.
Most importantly, it just sounds like these guys are having fun.. it's not the paint-by-numbers shit they've been doing.. it's different, and I'm hopeful.

Just heard You Are back to back with DOTC, and yeah I wish DOTC rocked harder like You Are and not so dancy like The Killers I'm The Man

Still diggin it, I think the chorus has a really strong melody that some arent getting yet. I wish they expanded more on a bridge.

Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
quite like the outro. This was a good song and a very pleasant surprise
As a song I do prefer Mind Your Manners, Fixer, World Wide Suicide, and I Am Mine (at least as initial singles) but those are all carefully calibrated to land right in my wheelhouse.
But this feels much more like the song they needed to release at this moment

That's actually Mike on guitar, so more like what's Stone gonna do?darthvedder81 wrote:I give it a B+. It’s weird and very different. “Who You Are” 2.0 basically and I am fine with that. I just hope the entire album doesn’t sound like this. That would get old fast.
Also I hear drums, bass and one guitar. What is Mike going to do live? Key-tar maybe? Haha.

I put this up there with Who You are and nothing as it seems.
Three single releases that are statements and direct challenges to fans. The pearl jam i fell in love with.

Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
I need to have a listen on some good headphones, I'm listening on a rinky-dink pair in bed now. I thought Ed was trolling at first with his vocals, but it gets better. Not great, but better. I do like the musis, though.
