Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
So I'm seeing a lot of Talking Heads, David Byrne references... I hear a Bowie tribute in here. Maybe this album ends up with tributes and nods towards some of those we've lost since LB?mkay0 wrote:It’s an overt Talking Heads rip-off, but it’s extremely well done. 4/5
Just a dumb thought... but I think I really like this one. I, too, cringed when I heard upper register to start the first verse but on second listen... it's butter.
What's crazy is that millenials (and therefore, radio) may actually eat this up.
Regardless... we've asked for experimentation for so long now. And that's what we have here. Make no bones about it!

I can tell that they didn't overwork it which has been an issue over the past 2 or 3 albums. Despite the quasi-electronic production it feels delightfully raw. Ed could be better but at least he is staying in a range that doesn't make him a complete detriment.

Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
stone's intro for the song is killer.
basically everyone had a hand in it.
started with matt cam drums.
stone came in with the bass.
jeff added the keys.
mike added that funky guitar riff.
ed came in with they lyrics.
one by one, yield style. i love this origin story.

Im so confused by everybody online talking about how creative this is and then saying things like "literally a Talking Heads song" in the same sentence.

I listened to it twice now. Pretty sure I didn't even make it through a whole song on Lightning Bolt.

Re: Dance of the Clairvoyants
I don't even know if I like it. It starts as a straight Talking Heads track, it really does. Then Ed's first vocals don't feel like they fit in with the music, so it's confusing. The grunts are very cool. David Byrne-y but also still very Ed, this is the best bit of the song without a doubt. Then the chorus is uninteresting and sounds like it belongs on Lightning Bolt, and on the next verse Ed crosses the line and just does a straight David Byrne impression---"I'm positive! Positive!". That was too much. And I don't like the ending, a lyric about boys growing their dicks is unexpected and weird but isn't worth listening to two repetitive minutes of chanting.
