Weird. I pulled it up just fine an hour ago.
I just enjoy them allowing the bass to be a focus, which seemed to fall back more and more on recent albums. I still stand by my Eminence Front comment, but I also get the textures that go back to Heaven / Hell - I don’t know the writing credits but this feels very Jeff Ament to me.
I'm kind of shocked by how good Ed sounds. I liked the little teaser we got a few days ago but was bracing myself for when his vocals would come in, struggling to sing whatever lame vocal melody he would come up with over top of it. But he sounds good in both departments. I love when Mike's guitar comes in and he starts growling.
No one would mistake this for vintage 90's Eddie, but this is what I would have realistically hoped a 55 year old Eddie Vedder would sound like.

Holy shit! As wildly improbable as this seemed until a few weeks ago, Pearl Jam have stumbled their way into being a good band again. The song is fantastic.
Love the little turn they have tossed out to us. Gets better with each listen - which is how I prefer my Pearl Jam.
Best way I can tell its a winner (for me) is that I listen to it a couple of times and put it aside for a bit to get stuff done and feel compelled to go and put it back on....and each time I catch something else I enjoy. I didn't really hone in on the guitar parts until my latest listen and really enjoy what is happening.

I was afraid of what this song might be like after hearing the short clips but I am pleasantly surprised that it is very melodic and catchy (the outro is stuck in my head) despite being left field for PJ.
My main issue with their more experimental stuff has always been that the songs don't grab me melodically and are too hard to get into, however accomplished musically they maybe. I know most of the people here prefer a No Code type album but I don't. If THIS is the kind of experiment they want to do, I'm all in.
From someone who got into PJ purely because of Ed's singing, I don't think he's doing anything special on this song technically but then the song doesn't cry out for it either. His phrasing is great and the vocals have a kind of atmospheric feel to them which is reminiscent somewhat of Ten for me rather than Binaural.
