Well this is cool.

Top 3:
1. AC Odyssey 112hrs
2. Shadow of War 59hrs
3. Red Dead 2 57hrs (probably my 2nd playthrough)

20 total games
362 total hours (only 6 online)
204 days played
Prime time = Wednesday mornings

Seems low but I guess I haven’t been playing a lot this year.

I took a somewhat completist approach to it. Though I didn’t do many of the radiant side quests (once I discovered they were system generated). Fuggin’ map is huge . I definitely spent more time in RDR2 on my first play through

Haha.. yeah, almost every night after we put the child down, Raz and I go downstairs and listen to music before watching a movie or something else. She sweepstakes and I play Rocket League with the sound off. It's pretty much the only game I can play with the sound off.

That's incredible. I'm jealous. I've been lucky to squeeze in 30-45 minutes of gaming a day lately.

Sorry dude. It would be nice to play games with the sound on more often, but I've managed to get pretty good at Rocket League.

Settling into a nice groove with Odyssey. The leveling system is slow, but the activities/quests/missions are varied enough to keep it interesting. So happy the series departed from the "follow without being seen" tropes of the several initial installments.

I spent a lot of time with this when it came out but a 1-2 punch of getting to two frustrating bosses I couldn’t beat and encountering a glitch that cost me at least an hour of hard-fought progress made me rage quit. I’d like to pick it back up but I feel like it would be difficult to re-learn now.

That's a deal breaker for sure. I haven't had the need to grind to level up, but that will be a major deterrent for moving forward if I have to later.

The combat isn't too complicated. I bet you could pick it back up if you have the time.

The game looks terrific in HDR.

Yeah it was stunning on the X. Maybe I will try again. A lot of cool stuff in that game.

I remember a couple of legendary animals in that game that were harder than any boss battle. I walked away from a few and ultimately stopped chasing that side quest. I remember one in particular, it was a boar that farted noxious gas and ran me over like a tank. Fuck that.

The only game I ever rage quit for gameplay reasons (i.e. not for a game being buggy or just bad) was X-COM. I think the only comparable RTS game I had ever played was Heroes of Might and Magic 3, and that's not a perfect one-to-one comparison. The permadeath and resource management threw me at first, but I feel like I got tbe hang of it. Every time an important member of my squad was killed or I lost a mission, I could almost always trace it back to one or two crucial mistakes I had made, and over the course of playing for a month I ironed most of those out; everything felt like a learning experience, and the game stayed challenging and kept teaching me the whole way. So I loaded up for the final boss level with my best dudes, all sorts of varied classes and loadouts, and I fought my way through this loooooong-ass level and got the end feeling punished and ready to close the game out. Then the final boss one-shot killed every single one of my dudes. Every. Single. One. Wtf? The way I was playing at the time (during midnight feedings with the twins) it would've taken me a week to train a squad to even try again, so I just said fuck it and moved on to a new game. X-COM 2 has since been out on Playstation Plus, but I'm fearful of putting that much time into a game again to be disappointed in the end.

tragabigzanda wrote:Yeah, X-Com 2 didn't drive me to "rage quit," per se... But it's pretty painful to put a ton of time into building a character up, only to see them unceremoniously slaughtered with the first couple minutes of a particularly difficult mission.

Truly an amazing game, the mechanics and concept are just fascinating, even if they have been aped by other devs in the years since. But way too much of a deep dive for the amount of time I have available.

Has anyone played any of the XCom smells-alikes, that are maybe simpler and easier to dive into for 45 mins at a time?
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.
