I like dragging it out. I'd love to have 2-3 songs to really dive into on their own before the album

they should release one song, every week, in sequential order.

This release schedule is pretty standard for bands now. Announce an album 2-3 months away, then release a single every few weeks. The buildup is what keeps you in the conversation. Once the album is out the hype fades away in an instant.

I can't wait for another scavenger hunt. I'm keeping my gas tank full just in case I have to drive to Toronto to look at another billboard

Great! Ed i still doing a little 'fixin'evenslow wrote:this could be problematic...
There was a pile of songs and in the last two months Ed mixed and selected the tracks and he did a great job of bringing everyone's personalities out. It was probably different than anything each of them individually would have made.

Look on the bright side: If Ed picked out the final batch, he chose DOTC too, so that's a good sign?

Part of me wants it all NOW, but then, how many more times will we have to be excited about new material from the band? Not many, if any, so dragging it out a bit is kinda cool.stip wrote:I like dragging it out. I'd love to have 2-3 songs to really dive into on their own before the album
Although it makes no sense to start the tour before the album is out. That's a head-scratcher.

The thought that "Ed mixed" the songs seems a bit out there, but maybe that was a simpler way of Stone saying that Ed oversaw the mixing process with the engineer in the final months?pnjguy wrote:Great! Ed i still doing a little 'fixin'evenslow wrote:this could be problematic...

based on the stone comment, sounds like there are more traditional pj numbers on the album.Juvenal wrote:Leatherhead wrote:If this is the weirdest track on the album, it's cool they released it as the first single. Even if the rest are more traditional PJ, I hope they're just as good.

- DOTC is the outer edge of something they haven't tried before. Definitely some straight ahead rock songs, some very spare and simple ballads.

are we going to get S/T to LB era traditional PJ numbers or pre-S/T numbersdarth_vedder wrote:based on the stone comment, sounds like there are more traditional pj numbers on the album.Juvenal wrote:Leatherhead wrote:If this is the weirdest track on the album, it's cool they released it as the first single. I hope so, but that comment made me think of duds like Swallowed Whole or The End. I hope songs like that are nowhere near this album.TheTVtalkstome wrote:I really want to say a whole new direction all together.blueviper wrote:are we going to get S/T to LB era traditional PJ numbers or pre-S/T numbersdarth_vedder wrote:based on the stone comment, sounds like there are more traditional pj numbers on the album.Juvenal wrote:Leatherhead wrote:If this is the weirdest track on the album, it's cool they released it as the first single. Recap of the interview here:Homeboyd wrote:Stone interviewed by Zane Lowe today:
Some variety on the new album #gigaton says Stone, some really straight ahead rock songs and some spare and simple ballads. DOTC is ‘on the outer edge of something we’ve not tried before’. The album is ‘really us’.
So, it sounds like a Pearl Jam album with DotC as the outlier fwiw.

it would be interesting if ed did the mix and really placed himself in a more modest position compared to most albums

yep, and it's the right call. with s/t, bs, and lb and the various songs in between, he's too prevalent in the mix.stip wrote:it would be interesting if ed did the mix and really placed himself in a more modest position compared to most albums

Cool.
I love that Stone and Jeff are the ones talking about the album. It seems to be very representative of what they want too.
