Interesting tidbit. As far as I'm aware, and I could well be wrong, Boom is pretty much nothing more than a touring member, he hasn't had any notable recorded contributions since Riot Act, so there's no reason to assume he wouldn't be, but I was listening to Marc Maron's pod with Josh Klinghoffer (recently binned Chili Pepper) today and he (Maron) mentioned that Klinghoffer would be doing some stuff on stage with PJ on this upcoming tour as well as opening.

Could just be a throwaway comment with zero truth in it, but if this was the case I can't see any need for a 4th guitarist onstage, and given that the guys album he's touring behind is basically piano/keyboard based songs, maybe there's something there. Perhaps I've just become a mad Pit conspiracy theorist.

yep, and it's the right call. with s/t, bs, and lb and the various songs in between, he's too prevalent in the mix.
100% agree. i wondered if the lack of stone on the last record was more of he just didn't come with anything good enough (Let the Records play can attest to that theory) or was this a case of Ed controlling things too much.
I mentioned this a years ago and got chastised for it. :haha:
did you? ha. well outside of tours/new music i'm rarely here so i wouldn't have seen it but i applaud you!

well, i don't know what your thoughts on it are, but a couple friends and i agree that, for example, Infallible sounds much better live than on the record. maybe given the prickly relationship i have with DOTC illustrates why i personally feel that way but Infallible feels a bit heavier (not just guitar wise). it feels like it has a little more umph to it. to a lesser extent in the same way the modern live version of No Way does. so perhaps the more electronic centric songs on this record will find a more organic balance in the live setting. plus if Klinghoffer actually is going to chime in here or there we could see something quite interesting.

the video of the stone interview is certainly more illuminating but still hard to read. he definitely seemed to walk back from the "experimental" tag but that could just mean it's not going to be computer-based music or something more outlandish.

Who the fuck cares about the live setting? How many times do you see PJ live vs. how many times do you listen to the song on the album? How the hell does Infallible sound heavier than this song? Infallible sounds like a pansy ass motherfucker next to DOTC.

Probably. But based on the strength of Dance, I'm hoping that "straight ahead rock" is more Insignificance/Ghost, and that "ballads" are more Fatal/All Or None.
I'm thinking Of the Girl kind of stuff for the slower songs.

So this is a pointless post but I'm bored at work. But, looking through the song titles I found most to be interesting or at least open to being attached to a decent song. Except one. I just refuse to believe that Buckle Up will be anything other than a forgettable 2:37 pop/punk song.

Could be a public service campaign for seat belt awareness. "Make it click" would be a good chorus.

"He’s not going to come out and say exactly in sort of very plain language maybe what you might think after reading the newspaper,” Gossard said. “But I think that his mysticism and his way of using words and art and music is a powerful sort of tonic. I think that underlying it all is going to continue to be a hopeful and beautiful but at times tragic message.”

That's an encouraging quote.

When Stone says DOTC is representative of the "outer edges", I take that to mean we're back to getting a few Who rave-ups, a couple of nervy, punkish toss-ins, and a fair few plaintive ballads; in other words, business as usual.

Love to be proven wrong. We shall see.

We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Well this is much further out than the outer edges of BS or LB.

Of course it is, sure, no argument there, yet, Stone's quote does seem to read like that's the kooky, quirky number, and not exactly an indication of what the rest of the record offers.

Again, I'm admittedly trying to hang out here while working ( damn you, cursed PJ album release hype swell!), but, that's how I interpreted it.

DOTC runs at 4:25. River Cross around 3:30 (studio version may be different, obviously). That means we’re looking at 10 songs around 49 minutes. That’s still a longer run time than all of LB. I’m just hoping to avoid the short punky songs.

Of course, River Cross could be a completely different song for all we know.

Dance of the Clairvoyants works because it's a strong song with good ideas which they committed to, not because it's weird or unusual.

I have no problem with a record which is largely based around more traditional Pearl Jam songwriting tropes so long as they're good songs that they've approached in the same way.
