Songs you like by musicians you normally don't like
I was certain we had a thread like this, but I searched a couple different ways and couldn't find it.
I just stumbled upon the Red Hot Chili Peppers song "Universally Speaking", which I hadn't listened to in a long-ass time. And I realized I actually really like it, even though I normally can't stand the RHCPs.
What's a song you like by an artist you normally dislike?

I still think they suck hard, I like this song because it doesn't really sound like them

I don't know that song. I'll listen to it over the weekendtragabigzanda wrote:What about Soul To Squeeze? that song is beautiful. And it has such a nice melody. And your favorite part about music is melody. So what gives?

"Exhausted" from the first album for me. And a good chunk of other songs from the next couple albums, actually. I don't dislike the Foos, I just think they're tiresomeE.H. Ruddock wrote:I'm sure there might be a Foo Fighters song I like out there somewhere.

There's an extremely popular Mexican band called Maná, they're the epitome of pop-rock blandness, just an absolutely horrible band. But they have this one song from their MTV Unplugged that's a salsa arrangement of an old Mexican ranchera ballad. I like it because it sounds nothing like them, and also they didn't even write it.

I really dislike Lenny Kravitz's whole thing but "It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over" is nice

This is the polar opposite for me, being a song by a band I largely enjoy which I actively loathe.theplatypus wrote:I just stumbled upon the Red Hot Chili Peppers song "Universally Speaking", which I hadn't listened to in a long-ass time. This isn't some contrarian thing, I just really can't stand that awful, cloying melody.

I love it. I love the melody and the bassline. It's got some Motown touches like the beat and the harmonies and those strings near the end. Give me this kind of stuff over ineffectual funk approximations with cringy lyrics about sex please
