It’s been said before, but Ed’s vocal delivery on that album has gotten better with time. Coming on the heels of the Binaural cycle, it did sound tired and bored at first. But over time, I think many on RM have come to view it as more of a creative choice — a sense of being wary and beleaguered by the politics of the time — and its captured beautifully.

The only PJ album to get significantly better with age for me.

one of the things that made S/T so important was that it made Riot Act a choice. RA (at least here) underwent a massive rehabilitation after S/T and it became clearer the energy was an aesthetic choice. Its one of the reasons I had such a strong initial reaction to WWS (also because its a great song that deserves better than you people)

Does the band even rate Binaural and Riot Act that highly? I remember around the time of S/T release, Vedder said something like "previously we've been handing in B's and C's, this is our A record" or some stupid metaphor like that.

I also distinctly remember this board's excitement at the prospect of B'OB returning to produce the band for Backspacer...

I also distinctly remember this board's excitement at the prospect of B'OB returning to produce the band for Backspacer...

during the lightning bolt interviews, steve gleason mentioned listening to a lot of binaural and eddie replied "glad someone liked that record.. binaural." not sure he doesn't rate it but he seems to think no one else does. they can't hate it too much seeing as they played it live in full a few years ago.

The Stone Gossard interview with New Music Daily was really just a very short phone call. They didn't ask about Dance, and raved about hwo well Ament played the bass on the tune, even if it's Stone on bass. I saw that Stone was quoted from the interview earlier in the thread, about how there are some traditional rockers and some ballads on the album. He also said they weren't in a rush, and taking their time to make the record was the right call. He's always excited about playing new material on tour.

I like WWS too. I always thought RM's opinion of it was weird.
