Musically, the song has a good sounding unique guitar solo, some catchy riffs and singing that works. Even the lyrics work on paper but at this point in life doesn't set the right mood, a problem with too many older pearljam Tunes for This Old Man anyway. Even if I'm in an off mood I can't get into much of the old stuff these days. Flame me.Sgt. Crackpot wrote:It's like, the worst song ever.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I kinda hate I Got Shit these days

Re: What is Each Album's Major Flaw?: No Code
I’d say that it’s hard to find a flaw on the album because it’s so varied that even the songs I don’t like add variety. I HATE Habit but I wouldn’t take it off because the hodge podge nature of the album is part of its charm. It’s like the Beatles White Album in this way (though obviously not as good)
But I’d say the closest thing to a flaw is that Present Tense feels like the closer and the next three songs do feel kind of pointless. Mankind feels especially unnecessary. I wonder how it would sound if Present Tense faded right down into Around the Bend? Letting Present Tense be the final climax and then lowering down into Around the Bend as an epilogue? Might have been nice.
But overall one of their most flawless albums because it’s flaws are its strength.

Re: What is Each Album's Major Flaw?: No Code
No Code has some good tunes but doesn't work well listening through the album? Its like a classic rock album (with a few more alternative filler tracks thrown in) but without mccready really cutting loose on soloing to give the album a few staple songs to keep returning to. The album should be redone with longer versions of red mos, present tense and a long acoustic solo on off he goes?

They dropped the ball huge on no code? Could have been epic and timeless.

it doesnt hold together for me. The most inconsistent tracklisting of any pj record. Weak finish and off he goes is self-indulgent to the point of parody

No flaws. I understand why some don't really like it. I'm not a Ten fan. No Code and Ten, you can't truly like both.

Fantastic record. Mankind is great. If it has any flaws, I'd say Around the Bend doesn't carry me the way most of their closers from Riot Act backwards do (barring Stupid Mop, which is it's own ball of wax). I think it's a pretty good song, but it's definitely my least favorite closer from the first seven records.

Ten is one thing, No Code is another. Yes both rock music. But I'm not sure you really get both of them if you say they are both awe inspiring.

I've never understood the criticisms of No Code's tracklisting.
I think Sometimes through Present Tense is the band's most pleasantly-flowing album sequence.
It does unfortunately kind of fall apart in the last three songs but it's great 'til then.

I like Present Tense but I can understand why someone wouldn't. Lyrically, it's trite high school poetry crap. Which is exactly why I don't like I'm Open. I can usually ignore whatever Ed is saying and just enjoy the music but I'm Open is all words.

I'm not seeing that in the lyrics. There's a very short analogy in a couple lines and the rest is like a counseling session.
