if it's a public service job for 11 years i think it's a sign he's a decent personverb_to_trust wrote:Who fucking cares? The mayor is entitled to a salary of $258,750 a year. Michael Bloomberg, mayor of the city from 2002 to 2013 and one of the richest people in the world, declined the salary and instead was paid $1 yearly.
by contrast, someone who comes from nothing could be susceptible to conflicts of interest to better themselves financially (see: pink tide)
Bloomberg is above the monetary fray
he is Bruce Wayne

Seriously. I guess 3 term mayor doesn't count, nor does congressional representative or senator. Cuz ya know, those jobs aren't important at all. They don't give you any executive experience and certainly don't test leadership skills.LoathedVermin72 wrote:What a postBi_3 wrote:As Bernie’s never held an actual full time job, I suppose he is the answer to the nightmare of having a successful leader run thingsLoathedVermin72 wrote:We have plenty of CEOs - we know how it works out.doug rr wrote:we've never had one as president yet..we need to find outLoathedVermin72 wrote:I continue to be confounded by why anyone would want a businessman in any kind of public office.

I don't know which jobs bring better experience for higher office than Governor (which is probably best), mayor & senator, other than already being in a higher office (like Cabinet member). Businessmen know how to run businesses. That is not how government is run, and I don't understand why anyone thinks that's the right experience. Unless you want someone who knows how to make $$ off the office itself, like the current President.

Which isn't to say a businessman can't do it. I just don't think that experience is enough. What kind of regular job should someone have first?

This is fundamentally wrong at it's core. No one denies the existence of the globalized economy. The US helped create it, and it's job is to manage it. The US government is not a business.Bi_3 wrote:This is fundamentally wrong at it's core. Fortunately Bloomberg built a successful business and was mayor of the largest N. American city for 11 years so he checks both boxes

Re: Election 2020
Why - because he has a plan for African Americans?
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... ndon-breedWhy are California's mayors lining up to endorse Mike Bloomberg?
London Breed, San Francisco’s first black female mayor, joins campaign following support from Stockton and San Jose mayors
“Voters re-elected London Breed by a wide margin because she is taking on the biggest and toughest issues – and she puts progress over politics,” the former New York mayor said in a statement. “I’m honored to have her support and look forward to working with her not only to win this election, but to help make San Francisco and all of California stronger, fairer, and greener – with more affordable housing, more good jobs, and healthcare for all.”
Breed, who previously supported the California Senator Kamala Harris in the Democratic race for the presidential nomination, said on Facebook that she is backing Bloomberg because he “is the only candidate for president with a real plan for African Americans”, touting his Greenwood Initiative to increase black home ownership and the number of black-owned businesses.
