The name of the upcoming album will be “Gigaton,” said frontman Eddie Vedder, and it will contain more “socially conscious” themes, according to a report in Variety.
“‘Lightning Bolt’ dealt with personal matters, and now it’s behind us,” said Vedder, referring to the band last album. “Now I have clear vision moving forward.”
That vision includes the plight of veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and the recent shootings in Ohio and Texas, said Vedder.
“I’m very happy with it,” Vedder said. “It’s a different record.”
It appears there will be a fine line between the “socially conscious” theme on the album, and outright politicizing. While Vedder is very active in politics outside of the band — he recently hosted a fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg in the Hamptons — they as a group have stayed away from controversial themes or endorsements.
“I don't even know the political affiliations of the guys in the band and I mean that, we don't even discuss it,” said Vedder. “That's the beauty of the music, it's the honest to God truth, that's why we've sold so many records and stuck around for three decades, because (the songs are) universal in their themes. I do not use the stage as a bully pulpit, I do not.”

“Also seen Ed and his daughter in the back halls of Neuehouse afterwards heading out.”
Hopefully to a waiting limo. My man had more to drink than Nic Cage in Leaving Las Vegas

Weird how the first quote the band released about Gigaton was McCready talking about how dark and confusing the recording process was when everyone else seems pretty happy with it.

I'm ready to start shitting on Retrograde when it comes out. Even the song title sounds like something BoB would come up with. Sounds like I'l like the first 3 tracks the most

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread (real tracklists released!)
Imma pump the brakes on this being anywhere near as good as Yield/Binaural/Riot Act...hopefully it's as good as S/T with a few standout tunes and feels like a cohesive album. The last two have felt like a collection of random songs packaged together.
