Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

It’s ok. Feels like the story was forced into the overall Avengers arc, but I didn’t read the comic so I don’t know how close it is. Also the 90s references were a bit much.

Serenity is pretty flaccid. It's uneven but it's not anywhere near the "worst thing ever made" like the general discussion had led me to believe. I wish it had committed fully to being weird. It holds back too much. I wanted it to be more like Brick in a way -- a self-aware noir of a different color. The scenes where they lean hard into the absurdity of it all, and try to use a unique vernacular are the scenes that work the best.

Under The Silver Lake is a fascinating film. Andrew Garfield is such a force. He's right up there with Driver as being among the best of their generation. The man is fucking riveting to watch. I'm still thinking through the movie and whether or not it totally works for me. But I really liked it, I think. I may end up loving it. But I have to work through what I think the movie is about at its core first. It feels like the movie is biting off a lot and I'm still torn on whether or not it's too much. I also wanted it to be weirder and a little more tense sometimes. Also, Jimmi Simpson should be in everything.

That's the big thing that I'm still wrestling with. At times it really feels like it's talking about toxic masculinity in an interesting way and other times it feels a bit icky in the wrong way. But I had the same issue with Mad Men when it first started and it's now my all time favorite TV show. So, it's possible that you're right and it's handling this stuff in an interesting and valuable way and I'm over thinking things.
