No Code got me into the band.

kidc-, if someone didn't like lightning bolt but loves dance of the clareys, could they still love this album?

The drums sounded different.
this is probably a good thing.

I love all PJ albums but if I have to rank

VS
No Code
Yield
Vitalogy
Ten
Backspacer
Binaural
Riot Act
Lightning Bolt
Pearl Jam

BUT ALL ARE 5 STAR ALBUMS

There are 2 supersonicy punk songs (never destination and take the long way)

There are no bluesy tracks like Half Full or Let the records play.

I had Buckle Up pegged as my fav song based on the title. It was not the rocker I thought it would be.

I’ve never been able to experience a PJ release without the bias of reading reviews on boards. So that was a treat. Fuck. that opener. Once it starts it does not let go. The crowd was floored. So much energy. You can feel every single band members footprint on it. It’s huge and fun.

I see everyone enjoying this album. And Ed seems super proud of it. For very good reason. But as I’ve said before. Fuck. I gotta retool my top 10.

Cheers!
Is DotC indicative of the other songs on the album, or is it a clear outlier?
Also, does it sound DIFFERENT, or does it nestle itself comfortably next to Lightning Bolt? (E.g. is it as different as Binaural and Yield are, or is it more like Lightning Bolt?
DotC is on its own here. Nothing sounds remotely similar. The rest is rock, punk or Eddie songs similar to Better days. And then Buckle Up.

It sits alongside with lightning bolt. If there were more tracks like DotC it would have been that type of departure. Had I not heard DotC it would have stuck out like a sore thumb... PLATED WITH GOLD.

But this album is closest to lightning bolt if I had to pick.
Ugh. Ok thanks.

FFS.

Soooo, it's either the best album since Yield OR the logical extension of Lightning Bolt

That's a fuckin' gigaton of differing outcomes

a lot to like here

layering

dolby whatever

first 4 tracks sound great

some kind of parachutes-around-the-bend hybrid

river cross

sure there might be 2 spritzy punkers and an anthem

but there's probably a lot here you're gonna like

I’m just thinking that if I was put in a room and got to listen to yield one time through while having shots of tequila .... then had to report back to the internet ... I’d probably classify brain of j as a punk song too.

Carry on gigaton. Let’s see what you’ve got.
