In fact, the most robotic and least natural sounding Pearl Jam album is Lightning Bolt because it is so sterile and plasticky

You can actually hear reverb tails on DotC...cool, eh?
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Hey y'all, haven't had the time to go back & read everything that's happened since the event yesterday. It's awesome that an RM poster was there.

My friend who has been briefly discussed much earlier in the thread (Seattle producer/engineer, co-owner of London Bridge) was also in attendance. Since the details of the event are out there publicly, I can share what he told me. Not a lot of new info but thought you would appreciate it. It was super exciting when I saw his first message. Posted verbatim below:

"I may be in an Uber on the way to listen to the whole new PJ album in LA. Here’s to hoping phones aren’t confiscated"

"It’s at a studio and mixed in Atmos, which is crazy 360 sound. This is the first play of the whole album for the label and allllll the peeps"

"Well boys... opinions are going to be all over the place on this one!
The songs... linger. I found a lot of it very moving, theres a couple Who references, an acoustic Ed song, there’s 2 that will be fun live (likely Matt?)
Ed dropped in as a surprise right before they played it, talked about what an emotional journey it was, cracked lots of jokes that it took 6 years, and that they did it all by themselves. He also talked a lot about how he’s losing his hearing. Some jokes about hoping it was played loud but some real talk about all the damage from headphones and recording."

"Crazy couple of hours! 3 sided vinyl with an inscription on side 4"

Well, that was a lot of catching up to read. Poor KidC, sacrificed himself to the crucible of RM and held in there longer than expected. Much appreciated, at least gave me a way to entirely kill a Saturday morning.

Thanks for the report, swan.

Six years, Ed? Was he so plastered that he didn't realize we're already in 2020?

The part about catching the vocal In the moment on the first take really excited me. pretty certain that is not the Brendan approach.

Love it.

Too pedantic....I've been up since 3am....Just....no.

LB came out in October of 2013. By the time the record comes out, it'll be 6 yrs 5 months. Better?

i am. imagine a guitar-driven band putting out guitar-driven songs. all of this sounds excellent. looking forward to River very much. how bout that kalimba!?
But "River Cross" doesn't sound like it is guitar-driven. gasp
yes but it'll be soulful and powerful and like humans are playing it on instruments and not a computer algorithm.
All Pearl Jam songs feature humans playing instruments
ha! you know what i meant.

fair play. agreed on that being the biggest problem with LB. i'm just excited for a new approach to a classic sound. let pearl jam be pearl jam.

Dime said it would be a divisive album as well. I wonder if that's related to the music or a general reflection on the state of the fandom

I’m with you. Skipped the last 3 pages, not going back.

I am, however, curious how someone new (like KidC) even finds RM in the first place. Way back in 2005 I heard about it on the radio. I’m curious how someone bypasses the Pit and decides to share their exclusive in from a record release party here instead. Seems obscure.

Obviously it’s easy enough to find on the internet, I mean why choose this offshoot board.

The guys who made the DOTC video said to watch out for Mach 2 and 3, so there’s probably a few more singles coming.

Because The Pit is chock-a-block full of people who bring former students to Pearl Jam concerts, and we've only got one?
