I think the band's approach to this has been great, it's the fans I find fatiguing.
^^THIS GUY GETS IT^^

I think it's exciting and refreshing for the band to role out the album in this MANNER. Little by little making people want more. We were all complaining that the band wasn't doing enough to give us new on the album. So they release awesome art work for each individual song and hold listing parties all converging on a town-hall meeting of sorts (which if I'm not mistaken they have NEVER done) I think it's amazing and my anticipation is through the roof due mostly to the "boring" promotional push they are doing.
You do realise you're one of the fans he's referring to?

Um...not really, I'm not a rabid poster. Just a few responses here and there, but I completely agree with thinking the bands approach to the album release has been great. lol

OK let's try that again. The one thing in common with embarrassing uber fans and whiney trolls is that we're all showing a fanatical need to be here.

If people need sales gimmicks to get excited about an album release then cool. I'm all for different marketing strategies however, I prefer to judge the music on its merits and then get excited if its good. Maybe I'm just cynical. Let the music do the talking and all that.

I'd hardly say I was trolling with my initial statement either.

I look at it this way...I like mostly everything the band has done in one way or another but they have definitely taken a few missteps here and there. But I appreciate all of their music for what it is. And as far as "needing" the sales gimmicks to get excited I for one do not. I've been excited since we first learned of the band going into the studio. It's like hearing your best friend is coming to visit after being overseas for a few years...Things may not be the same but there will probably be some good times had by all. But just like with anything else anyone has ever been excited about, learning more about it and the build up along with the date coming closer has made me more excited than I already was. The marketing "raises" my anticipation, it does not "create" it.

Do all those speech marks also raise your anticipation too?

Can we go back to mindless speculation and complaining about BOB instead of discussing the right and wrong ways to approach this album and people hating on this thread while still participating themselves? Yeah, I know, now I'm also complaining.

It's a vicious cycle. But lets please!

But it's worth remembering that this 'sales gimmick' was also revealing album art. That album sleeve art happens to be pretty excellent, albeit in a divisive style. So if you happen to see an album as as much visual as aural, then the reveal was very interesting and engaging.

I don't think it does hence my post. But I had been accused of it a few posts above y'know.
