Album artwork aside I really liked S/T when it come out and for quite a few years following it was in my top 3 of PJ albums. It hasn't aged that well unfortunately. Opposite effect with Binaural and RA which were at the very bottom for a long time and now near the top. Funny how that works. The BOB remixes for S/T really help. It's more than just a re-master. It's on Apple Music and definitely worth a listen if you haven't—there are whole guitar parts that either weren't there at all or buried in the mix previously.
I remember there being a lot of hype in early '06 around S/T with the band feeling like they were "hitting the reset button". The SNL performances (Lindsey Lohan!) were really memorable and some of their best on TV I thought. It was the first time I heard "Severed Hand" and it got me very hyped (thought then and still think it's a great heavy rocker with one of my favorite Mike solos). I do think that album generally does a good job of melding the earlier, louder PJ with the more experimental 96-02 era.
