No code is not a good album name. It’s the album title equivalent of telling people you are really funny

When Binaural was coming out I was pretty excited (and was in last year of school). I would often write out the PJ album titles in coll album fonts. I still think Ten-Binaural are cool titles. Riot Act too. Pearl Jam as an album title is a bit meh, but as a reintroduction to the mainstream sorta makes sense. Backspacer is okay, kinda intriguing.

Lightning Bolt though... so so lame. Ugh. A Nickelback title if there ever was one.

That’s it, those are the only Pearl Jam albums with half-decent titles.

The rest are bad to terrible.
I bet you would've ranked Yield at the top had they named it Give Way.

Vitalogy is a good album, but I don’t quite get why it’s such a good album title.

Interesting. Evocative. Fresh. Begs interaction. States a thesis. Once you know what Vitalogy is, you can begin to view the music through a specific lens and that invites discussion. To me, the best album titles are the ones that articulate or even imply a through-line or overall theme to the piece. Vitalogy, Vs, Yield... all of these give some indication of what the songs could be about. Or at least a starting POV -- a context.

Yield is a great title. The album/tour poster and cover art - also great.

I feel that way about Yield as a title, but feel Vitalogy was picked just because it was a fun old medical book they found in a shop.

...well, they actually had previously considered naming the album 'Life'. Glad, they went with Vitalogy instead. I agree with everything DcT has said here.

The internet was in its infancy when Vitalogy came out, so I would here album news on the radio or the MTV news snippets like 5 minutes before the top of the hour. Before they would show the logo or anything, I kept thinking they were saying "Biteology"

I was making a PJ website at the time (LOL) and I had in my news section that Biteology was coming out on such and such date.

Ten = ten feet and ten arms / number of Mookie
Vs = band vs the world, Ed vs the press, five against one
Vitalogy = old home health encyclopedia
No Code = Pearl Jam has more than one way, there is no code
Yield = Yield to nature
Binaural = the music is binaural
Riot Act = a statement of rebellion towards the elite
S/T = this is us
Backspacer = this takes you back in time
Lightning Bolt = Lightning Bolt
Gigaton = the climate is changing, it’s a world in crisis

I mean, are ranking these with no respect toward meaning or theme?

I always enjoyed how Vs., Vitalogy, No Code, and Yield were all thinly veiled commentary on the state of the band. Pearl Jam and Backspaced as well, I guess.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I think we have to agree to disagree on the title Vitalogy. Because I still don't get it.

remember when they sponsored a turtle in some race and named it "backspacer" and no one realised they were foreshadowing the upcoming album title. classic times.
