It was on Prime and I remember LV posting a link to an article about the movie's insane twist. I didn't read the article and I was curious. The movie isn't good by any stretch but it's also not the worst movie ever made.bune wrote:The only times I've heard about Serenity are from How Did This Get Made? and another podcast where they watch crap movies.
And here.

from all accounts it seems like if they had leaned into it a bit more it could have been interesting.

Which moment do you think its icky?durdencommatyler wrote:That's the big thing that I'm still wrestling with. Under The Silver Lake is a fascinating film. Andrew Garfield is such a force. He's right up there with Driver as being among the best of their generation. The man is fucking riveting to watch. I'm still thinking through the movie and whether or not it totally works for me. But I really liked it, I think. I may end up loving it. But I have to work through what I think the movie is about at its core first. It feels like the movie is biting off a lot and I'm still torn on whether or not it's too much. I also wanted it to be weirder and a little more tense sometimes. Also, Jimmi Simpson should be in everything.
Under The Silver Lake is an absolute masterpiece. I think its the best movie out there talking about male toxic behaviour.

I don't want to get to heavy into the movie in this thread. I'm sure it's some of the same scenes that lead you to call it "the best movie out there talking about male toxic behavior." Some of those scenes still don't sit well with me because I'm not sure they are doing what they think they're doing or accomplishing anything.VinylGuy wrote:Which moment do you think its icky?durdencommatyler wrote:That's the big thing that I'm still wrestling with. The Lighthouse was incredible. Pattinson was great, but Willem Dafoe as a sea captain was A+++, one of the best performances I've ever seen. And the filmmaking itself was absolutely beautiful.

I feel like this is extremely out of character for me but I’ve always really liked Firefly and Serenity

It's super intense, dark, and singular. One of the more focused movies I have ever seen. Locks into a few ideas and buries the characters in them.
