Wasn't Soundgarden's initial single title from their reunion record hilariously cliche like "We're Back" or "Guess Who's Back" or something?

When he said that I pictured Ed picking a bunch of demos and adding lyrics/vocals to them to shape the album, kind of like the described DOTC process. So maybe there are a lot of instrumentals that didn’t never got used, and/or some passed over Ed songs.

That’s possible. Either way, there’s some leftovers. If I remember correctly, with LB, they didn’t exactly record or write a bunch or have many leftovers. I think Pendulum was from the BS sessions and obviously Sleeping By Myself was an older Ed one.

And, I feel fortunate they're still around. It is very rare to have band situations where people are even around, together, and alive much less have an opportunity to put out a song like DoTC.

Some of the fan entitlement over the last 15 years, as if the band is required a certain level of customer service in terms of creative approach, is nauseating to me. I want them to make something that represents where they are spiritually at as accurately as possible. Whatever that is. If they can accomplish that to a successful degree, then it's good art to follow. The whole idea of people wanting specific tempos, styles, lyrics, and technical approaches, is a fanbase that has lost it's way more than the band themselves. They are not a fuckin jukebox.
I’m not sure why you have such a problem with fans - who love the band - discuss things they love most about the band and would like to see from them. This is the internet and a message board devoted to the band for discussions about the band. If we took your approach of “whatever they give is fine” then this board would cease to exist. Also I don’t think you really understand much of how this board interacts.
I was on the pre-historic nucleus of this board going way back to 1999-2000. Twenty fuckin years, so please save any 'new guys don't get this place' BS. I had a role in the earliest intelligent deep dive conversations that this board was about. It's gone to shit and I have every right to bitch about it. Lots of people like me have walked away, leaving this toilet bowl that always had so much potential. It's why I revisit every so often, to see if there is some life still left in here. It's probably better to just leave the same 20 people to circle jerk and prejudge their way into hating the next album after they've had 4 months to kick it around.

Just engage and post about the music? I've tried that, but it gets followed up w/ 5 pages of snark that people who think they own this place believe is really charming (again, I was around these parts 20 years ago, if it's meant to be humorous and fails on any kind of comedic level). It's toxic, and I wish this place could help me enjoy the musical journey but that's probably wishful thinking. I'm pretty much right where Stip is, and I doubt I'll be able to experience Gigaton in any meaningful way here.
This had me thinking......Who is the board's longest active member? Peeps, me, Stip, Tuolumne? I recall the two crashes prior to the '04 crash and the data was lost, but was still curious if a data scientist (or climatologist) could find out. Thx.

Also, rip, Sunny, who was a long-timer from Boston who left too
I go back to Master/Slave. Hard to remember when I arrived here but it was definitely a long time ago.
I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd.

I specifically remember an interview from Lightning Bolt build up where Ed said something like "We got these new songs, and a few that will have to sit on the sidelines until next time"

They definitely had a couple of B-sides from LB.

EDIT: Also remembered this interview with Stone about Let The Records Play, where he says that Jeff had another song, that will probably come out on the next record, which Stone used to create Let The Records Play (ugh )

Same.

Also, JF -- to clarify my weird comments about your writing and Billboard last week that may have seem incongruous -- I mistook you for Jessica Letkemann, the Billboard writer and one-time Two Feet Thick writer (founder?). I was just being a dope. Sorry!
 ah, yes I remember that site. No worries!

FTFY.

They certainly have stuff they haven't done anything with from every album, b/c they talk about it every time. And without a doubt, they have an entire album in the round file right now. They fucking announced an upcoming album including Can't Deny Me in March of 2018, and then released a presumably, entirely different album 2 years later.

We should have Lost Dogs on Crack coming out at some point.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I was very fortunate to be at the listening party for LB in Amsterdam back in 2013. Brendan O'Brien was there for a Q&A.

One fan asked about other songs being recorded. He mentioned that there wasn't much recorded for LB, he thought that there were maybe 1 or 2 songs that didnt make the cut. I figured one would be Olé. Another fan asked if 'Off the Earth' was recorded for LB. He said it was not.

I've joked about it before based on Jill's Insta... but I'm going to full on commit to it here and now. There's a second album coming within the year (within 12 months of Gigaton's release). Maybe I'm dead wrong, but I'm gonna be optimistic and officially call my shot.

2 albums within a year.
