Not gonna lie, I'm more excited for the Villenueve "Dune" than I am Gigaton.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Sorry, but Dune is from a very influential Sci-fi period in my life. And waaay before Pearl Jam was even a thought.

As a side note, I've often thought of starting a thread about Sci-fi movies from a certain time period (mostly 1950- mid 80's, but some older stuff from the 30's in there), but I feel like it might be just LV and myself having any interest.

Yes. It received and continues to receive mostly bad reactions, but I've always appreciated the story and what Lynch was trying to do. I think you should watch it. Be warned, it can be a slog if you aren't into the story or the dated look of it.

I liked it and have watched it several times. I know that it's dated and stiff but it's awesome for me and I've still not read the book.

it also depends on which version you get: there's a one that was directed by David Lynch and there's one that was directed by Alan Smithee.

In some cuts, Lynch's name is replaced in the credits with the name Alan Smithee, a pseudonym used by directors who wish not to be associated with a film for which they would normally be credited. The extended and television versions additionally credit writer Lynch as Judas Booth.
