The worst song (not counting Stupidmop) is probably Habit. Or maybe Green Disease.

I don’t know how any PJ fan doesn’t love the jam at the end of Habit. Top 5 moment in the catalog.

3 stars, I guess. Sometimes I like it, others time's not so much.

In Hiding is a good comparison; I always found its aaaaaaaeeeiiiiiieeeeeee chorus kind of annoying, but I don't have any strong feelings of hatred for the song, there's a lot of good things happening around that under-written chorus and same goes for ATW imhoguitar_davey wrote:Always loved this one and could never understand it being as widely panned as it seems to be.
Gone gives me a similar feel to In Hiding, which I also love. Also super into what the band did with Ed's demo.
I'm currently listening to "Gremmy out of Control"

"In Hiding" actually achieves lift-off, IMO, while "Gone" sounds forever mired in muck

while I don't necessarily agree (I don't think "Gone" requires the stratospheric lift-off "In Hiding" achieved), I know and hear exactly what you mean so if it falls flat for you I respect thattheplatypus wrote:"In Hiding" actually achieves lift-off, IMO, while "Gone" sounds forever mired in muck

Re: Song of the Moment: Gone
to begin with, I find "Gone" to be a real melancholic, bittersweet song; there's pain mixed in with the resolve to leave a bad situation that has nothing left for you, but that you will have to mourn; and I think the music's hesitation to really become a triumphant hymn of freedom reflects that

That opening acoustic section is so dull.

I can get behind the idea that the chorus is underdeveloped, as is the chorus for ATW, even though I enjoy both songs.

Re: Song of the Moment: Gone
I think half-baked choruses have maybe always been a thing with this band, it's just that they spent so long just very stylishly getting away with it; now it's a glaring flaw when surrounding aspects of their sound aren't as powerfully stellar as they used to be

I agree conceptually but EJ is right in that it doesn’t quite pull off what it’s going for.Ms Harmless wrote:to begin with, I find "Gone" to be a real melancholic, bittersweet song; there's pain mixed in with the resolve to leave a bad situation that has nothing left for you, but that you will have to mourn; and I think the music's hesitation to really become a triumphant hymn of freedom reflects that
But the chorus gets there for me and I prefer the substance to the immature in hiding.
In hiding, gone, and amongst the waves are pretty similar songs - no one song gets it all right

Re: Song of the Moment: Gone
I can see the comparison to Gone, but I've never seen the relation between Waves and In Hiding, even though the comparison is often made. I guess broadly they're both mid-tempo inspirational songs, but In Hiding is far more musically nimble; Amongst the Waves tends to feel like a slower, more plodding song than it actually is.
But In Hiding is by far the best song; I actually think Waves and Gone are two of the worst songs on their respective albums. Maybe they've just lost the ability to throw that particular pitch.
